PUPPIES!

Lilly was emaciated and just over a week away from having her puppies when she landed on our doorstep. The timing and her condition gave us precious little time to help her get some weight on and prepare to feed a pack of babies, but we did it!  The best news? THEY ALL HAVE HOMES!

Yuki. Yes, we are a Boxer rescue but when our president was pulling Boxers from a high-kill shelter in California, she saw Yuki who was due any day and also due to be euthanized that same day. You guessed it, Yuki came home with the Boxers and LOOK what we have! They look like little wrinkly, cone-headed Boxer babies, do they not? AND THEY HAVE HOMES!

Then came four pups at five weeks old. Three boys and one itty-bitty, teeny-weenie little girl(who has stolen all hearts) whom we lovingly refer to as Eenie.

March Puppy Madness?

Let's get updated on a couple of our last tough cases. Zara , JoC AND Melody.

Zara, found on Craigslist. Wow, she was in tough shape. It was a long struggle to get her little body, riddled with infection, back to health. Through the fight, all of the care and love, a bond was formed and Zara's fosters adopted her.

JoC, an owner surrender. Such a love in such terrible shape. She is with a loving foster and available for adoption. She has been gentle and willing for all we need to do to help her. If you know a person with a gigantic heart willing to take a senior girl in, send them our way.

Melody, our spina-bifida girl has been adopted by her fosters. She is learning the ways of a wheelchair and will soon be burning those tires off.

Now to our new charges. Along with March Puppy Madness came emergency cases back to back. Why do these always come in threes?

Brad- Gentle, emaciated, covered in perfectly round sores, raw paws and failing fast in a shelter. The shelter reached out to us and in twenty-four hours he was in our care and headed for a foster home. He is lovingly known as Bat Dog Brad and thriving. Soon he will be on his way to a furever home.

Zena- Why didn't her person feed her? Imagine days and days of following your person around wondering why you aren't being fed? When health workers were called to check on a subject, who was found to have an altered mental state, they also found Zena. Wigglin' Home Boxer Rescue is thankful the responders understood the urgency and knew enough to contact us before taking her to a shelter. We completed her paperwork and our transport team was enroute to retrieve her in just over an hour. We can't sugar coat this case. Zena is in a struggle for her life. Along with being emaciated, she has a belly full of worms, terrible ear issues, extremely long nails, an eye issue and multiple infections. We are DETERMINED to see her through this.  Our foster and the vet believe she is a fighter and has not given up, that is a big part of the battle already. In recent days she has given a fun little grumble and 'roo' to her foster, showing a perky side, albeit weak.

Lola- This little gal is brand new to the rescue and this is the only picture I have at this time. An emaciated little love and so gentle.

Donations in the past and future ensure we can help all of these pups while continuing to save more Boxers from critical situations. We are a 501(c)3, all volunteer organization and donations could be deductible at the end of the year. If you are like me, many times I want to give a considerable donation but don't have the ability to do so right then. That's where the option to set up an auto-pay, monthly donation saves the day. Global Giving offers that option right off the main donations page. Saving pups in need has never been easier.

On the heels of discussing donation options, we want to share with you how hard our volunteers work to try and lessen our 'ask' for donations. Attached is a picture of two (of six) volunteers who work a concession stand at the Moda Center (aka Rose Quarter, Portland Oregon's indoor sports and concert arena). From this work, they earn the rescue a percentage of all sales. These dedicated volunteers can be found slinging popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, soda, and beer anywhere between four and eight times a month, sometimes working full weekends!

As I wrap this up- April 8th is National Dog Fighting Awareness Day. Despite being a felony in all 50 states, dog fighting continues to be a popular underground activity. Additional criminal activities often connected with dog fighting include drug and weapons violations. If you suspect dog fighting is occurring, please contact your local animal services or police. Innocent lives are depending on us to expose their demise.

Attached is a picture of one of our rescue pups with his little girl- they asked if we might spread the word with them. SURE!  Want to recreate the picture with your pup and share a photo with us? Send it off to our Facebook page, we'll be glad to post it!

Ok, that's a wrap. Spring is just around the corner, we wish you all the best and our thanks for your support.
