Fountains of Hope is helping to eliminate the cholera outbreak by providing safe water to schools and orphanages in Haiti. We have identified 10+ school/orphanage locations near Archaie, Haiti that need FoH water purifier systems. Our goal is to raise funding for two or more water treatment facilities at $6,000 each.
80% of the population in Haiti does not have access to safe water sources. Worldwide, waterborne illness claims a life every 20 seconds. During 2010, a deadly cholera outbreak took place for the first time in over 100 years in Haiti. Thousands of people died with over a million contracting cholera. A person can die of cholera in just 4 hours if they do not have access to immediate treatment. Remote mountain schools especially need safe water as there is no transportation to medical facilities.
Fountains of Hope is dedicated to providing safe, life-giving water to people in need. Using a cup of salt, water and a 12 volt battery, the FoH water purifier generates chlorine to kill all the bacteria found in river water. The FoH purifier system can disinfect 3,600 gallons of water per hour. FoH has identified 10 remote schools/orphanages in Haiti that are in need of purifier systems. The first $12,000 raised will be applied to 2 school systems. Every $6,000 over will buy another system.
Fountains of Hope is working with individuals, communities and other nonprofit partnerships to create long-lasting sustainable solutions to the world's water problems. We are committed to empowering people with the skills, knowledge and equipment that will enable them to have access to safe, clean water. Women and girls walk an average of 6.2 miles a day to carry water from distant water sources. As a result of installing FoH water purifiers, girls will have the opportunity to attend school.
