Due to water scarcity and inconsistent supply in Johannesburg, Hearts of Hope South Africa needs to install a water tank and pump system at 2 of its houses to provide a clean and reliable water source for the 52 orphaned and vulnerable children and their housemothers who live there.
In addition to water scarcity, the municipal water system in Johannesburg is collapsing - 52 orphans and vulnerable children at Hearts of Hope often have no water due to pipes bursting and major leaks. We have put in water tanks at two of our houses to assist , but we have four different properties and still need more tanks to help us look after the children properly. The children have come from impoverished, and often abused and traumatic circumstances and need a safe home.
The suburb of Wendywood, where Hearts of Hope is based, faces regular water outages. The children have limited bathing solutions and are using grey water to flush the toilets. The water tanks and pumps will ensure that Hearts of Hope always have a continuous supply of water and that the children and housemothers will have a clean and reliable in-house solution to the water crisis.
The water project will provide Hearts of Hope with a sustainable solution for the water crisis and ensure that health and hygiene standards can be maintained. The 52 children and their housemothers will have a regular supply of clean and healthy water, providing a healthier and more hygienic home for them all.
