Poor sanitation and hygiene practices are linked to the transmission of diarrhea diseases such as cholera and dysentery, typhoid, and intestinal worm infections, polio and reduction of human well-being, and social economic development due to impacts such as anxiety, risk of sexual assault, and loss of opportunities for education and work(WHO in March 2022).
Afyaplus organization through a Water Project in Tanzanian schools is working to improve school sanitation and hygiene status through the provision of hygiene education and the construction of hand washing facilities in schools.
Improving access to sanitation and hygiene services in schools not only saves the lives of the children but also creates a better and safer learning environment for schoolchildren, increases the enrolment, retention, and academic success rate of pupils, and saves money and time to recover from illness caused by poor hygiene and sanitation services.
During this year 2023, the organization managed to construct four hand-washing facilities in four schools and provide education on good sanitation and hygiene practices to 2909 Students (1228boys, and 1681girls) from four schools namely Kalenga secondary, Kalenga primary, Mkwawa secondary, and Miyomboni secondary school.
