This project will provide access to clean and safe water services to 6000 schoolchildren in rural areas of Iringa, Tanzania who do not have access to clean water, good sanitation, and hygiene at the school level. Afyaplus Organization plans to build hand-washing stations in 10 schools whereby 8 students can wash their hands at once including students with disabilities with the aim of protecting them from water-related diseases which will affect their school attendance and performance.
Every day, nearly 4,000 children die as a result of drinking unsafe water. Every 22 seconds a child perishes from waterborne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and dysentery. Six million people are blind as a result of contaminated water and bacteria. Clean water can cut a community's child mortality rate in half. Access to WASH facilities is already a challenge in Tanzania where an average of only 57% of households have access to drinking water, and 25% have safely managed sanitation services.
With the fund that will be raised through this project, we will construct 10 hand washing stations for schools children in 10 schools approximately to reach more than 6000 girls and boys, provision of WASH education, and distribution of IEC materials to 6000 beneficiaries on menstrual hygiene management and prevention and control of WASH-related diseases in schools
The project will reach 6000 school girls and boys to have access to clean and safe drinking water, and hand washing point facilities, and it will prevent them from WASH-related diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid, increase school attendance and performance by 60% Your support on WASH services to school children is the hope of our future.
