News from America – Children at International School of Brooklyn remember
A CHANCE YOUR DONATION TO BE MATCHED
In case you are considering one more contribution this year and you are donating from the US, please remember TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 29th is Giving Tuesday. (Perhaps set an alarm on your phone!) Donations are being matched by the Gates Foundation …and you can multiple your kindness. But please donate early on November 29th to qualify – it will mean more clean water, more goats, more good in the world.
Children at the International School of Brooklyn are showing that they are determined to do something to help families in Darfur. Inspired by a 6-year-old American boy called Owen, this year has seen their sixth Walk for Water raising thousands of dollars to provide clean water in the villages of Darfur.
“A handpump does not only provide clean water” said Patricia Parker during her visit to the school, “but water close at hand means that children can go to school. Education is the way out of poverty and in Darfur not having to walk miles across the sand means women and children are no longer at risk of attack. The 9 year old whose 7-hour walk for water inspired the foundation of Kids for Kids only started school once we had installed our first handpump in his village. He has found studying very hard because of starting school so late, but he is determined to succeed. The children of ISB will not only be giving clean water to children, they are giving them a chance to go to school, and a better future.”
And with the donations raised by the Walk for Water at The International School of Brooklyn, we are hard at work getting hand pumps to work in Shawat Maki and Hillat Minair.
This means that little Hawa, who has been risking her life to walk miles from Shawat Maki, to bring water to her family and keep their little goats alive, can now go to school and be safe instead.
Thank you from Hawa, and the hundreds of others to whom you have given the life-changing gift of water.
Thank you for all your kindness – and don’t forget, if you can, please donate on 29th November so that your generosity can do double the good!
