Darfur has been in humanitarian crisis for many years. It is not just isolated geographically, landlocked in the middle of Africa, but there is virtually no infrastructure, not even roads. With violence escalating since the start of the year even more people have been forced to leave their homes. This year, for the first time, 8 Kids for Kids villages have been directly affected. People took refuge in other Kids for Kids' villages where help is at hand, but there are no spare water containers.
Our first priority is Jerry Cans so that people will have water for drinking, cooking and washing. We will work with them and local village leaders to help them to return home when it is safe to do so. Meanwhile villagers will share their food and other essentials, and will need our help particularly to replace seed so they have sufficient to grow for next year - but the urgent need is water - we need your support to make it happen.
Your gift of a jerry can will help children and families to survive. Water is desperately needed, and until this need is met they can not even begin to think about how to rebuild their lives. If you become a regular giver, you can help longer term. We have adopted 70 villages so far, and are hoping to adopt 7 new ones in 2015. We implement an holistic package of projects in each village, including Water, Goat Loan Microfinance, healthcare and more. You can see more at www.kidsforkids.org.uk
