Association for Zambians in Belgium, Pamodzi plans to upgrade a community based orphanage called Compassion Orphanage in Northern Zambia which provides care, educational, welfare and emotional support for 40 orphans who hail from communities affected by High rates of HIV/AIDS related deaths.
There are currently 1.5 million children who are orphaned as a result of High rates of HIV/AIDS related deaths in Zambia. Most orphans are at the risk dropping out of school due to lack of financial support and usually end up on the street or engage into juvenile delinquency as a means of survival. Girls opt for early marriage as a way to get themselves out of the situation therefore exacerbating poverty. This project will take care of 40 orphans from Luwingu area in an effort to fight poverty.
The project will provide a secure place for 40 orphans and avoid them being destitute and homeless by providing food, accommodation, clean water and sanitation and recreational facilities. The project will provide quality education to the orphans by enrolling them in the nearby schools, pay their school fees, provide uniforms, books and meet all school related costs. The project will impart skills for sustainability to orphans who are older than 15 years.
The 40 orphans in this community will be able to read and write giving them a chance to continue their education and /or find a job and become resourceful. These orphans will realize their dream and become self-sustainable people, future leaders and responsible citizens who shall contribute positively to the economic growth of the country and the world at large. This will bring an end to generation to generation poverty therefore achievement of sustainable development goal 1: No poverty
