Self-introduction;Gathering;Why this workshop;HROC Basic workshop Review ;What are Emotions; Identifying Emotions;Responding to Emotions

III.TESTIMONIES

Fred(Keystone school):I am a testimony to the positive change HROC brought into my life. It takes one more energy and patience to get to collaborate with the little angels I teach.I now understand that people may experience trauma, and show their emotions according to their personalities.
Thank you so much HROC.

Alex(Birira School): I have decided to keep my files,so that I can evaluate the work that I am doing while helping my pupils.
I am learning and I am getting clear with some of the questions that I used to ask to my self. I thought emotions are only what people feel, but I know that it involves people’s behaviours and what they do.
I am glad for this.

Thierry(Kitabura School):HROC should be included into our daily activities. Find a short time to play, listen and share our feelings with kids.I learnt that I will not only listen to feelings but also to emotions Thank you so much HROC.

Helene(headmistress Kivumu School):
I know I have changed much from the way I use to deal with pupils and teachers in general. Now I can identify my own emotions and those of whom I work and live with.

IV RECOMMANDATIONS

Within the two to three years, the number of early age pregnant girls has increased so much. This is due to many causes and circumstances such as RAPE, Trauma from the parents, Poverty,…
This has become very challenging and traumatizing to the community, to see “Babies” carrying and breastfeeding other babies.
With the partnership with the Evangelical Friends Church of Rwanda in the Eastern Province, HROC Rwanda was able to visit and conduct workshops with some of those girls(single mothers). I am saying “some”, because we were only able to conduct 2 workshops, and 40 girls attended these two, where by there is more than 120 girls from the same community, according to the Executive Secretary of the of the Cell shared news.

Testimonies
1. Irakoze(first group): A 17 years old single mom said” Since I gave birth, I was abandoned by my family members, and had to leave school” Since then I felt no sense to life, and could do whatever I want, without thinking of my tomorrow.” This workshop brings my mind back, and I want to start to work on how to build Trust with others” Thank you so much”

2. Vestine (first group): “The Johari’s window is my mirror”, “I got to understand myself”, I need to share my feelings with others, especially the way I got pregnant unwillingly! Thank you so much HROC for inviting me here. I hope I will get healed”

3. Brigitte(first group): “Life is a journey” “Trust walk has taught me so much” My life is ourney! Thank you for showing me some ways of healing from grief”

4. Olive(second group): “HROC brought me back to normal life” I felt like giving up”

5. Noella(second group): Johari’s window helped to understand the importance of sharing my sad stories with others” “HROC has set me free”, “I am not the only one”

6. Francoise(second group):” I had decided not to have a friend anymore” HROC helped me to realize that I am still an important person”

Recommendations
1. Come back for the follow up
2. Train other single mothers from this community
3. Help us create a group of single mothers so that we stay together to exchange ideas
4. We need to do trainings on different skills so that we can help ourselves survive with our babies

Facilitators receiving relief food
  1. Introduction

Rubavu have been affected by the Earthquakes that occurred after the 22th May Volcanic Eruptions.

This has caused so many problems, including people leaving their houses to find rescue, houses damaged, robberies when some people decided not to move from the danger, physiological issues, such as trauma, stress, other kind of sicknesses related, including falling into coma, enxiety,…

  1. Need solved

With the help of AGLI, HROC Rwanda was able to assist its facilitators who stay in RUBAVU, and provide some food to them, including maize flour, rice, and cooking oil. Nine of the facilitators were assisted.

  1. Shared feelings

Justine said “HROC all the time”, “this is part of our healing from the volcanic eruption fear” I appreciate the way you kept following us up to make sure we are safe, now, just few days of returning home, you send us food. “We truly have our HROC family”

Francois who is the lead facilitator in Rubavu said” We cant explain our gratitudes toward HROC” This a sign of a good Healing Companion” “I personally appreciate more, as I was able to move my family to the HROC Center and stayed there safely”. “We will make sure we keep our HROC as it helps many throughout their journey of healing”

“Our thanks go to whoever provided little or big money to buy this food”. “Be blessed” Added Francois.

5.Recommendations

- So many are traumatized in Rubavu, HROC facilitators are traumatized as well, but mostly kids. There is a great need of listening to them if possible. When vehicles pass by, they run thinking it’s the earthquake that comes again. Any heavy sound makes them fear. They are afraid of leaving their schools again, or houses may fall on them…

- Due to many people that have left their houses alone, they have lost so many including house materials, clothes,… any assistance is still needed

- More people haven’t food to eat(we met HROC trained people from Rubavu community). They don’t have anything to eat and feed their children these days. Any food assistance can be appreciated.

Theogene: “I have been a teacher for ten years, but this is my first time to attend such workshop” The empty chair was my way out of trauma” I am going to work on my journey of healing” I will be listening to students”

Elias: “Listening is a key toward my healing from Trauma” I normally don’t be patient with others, especially students” Normally I make decisions into someone else’s place, which is a bad way of listening, “Now I know” Thank you so much for inviting me here”

Recommendations for way forward:Trainmore teachers and parents,Provide the individual counselingAnother level of workshop so that we gain more skills,Visit us to schools to see what we do and motivate us
