Providing Excellent Training in Difficult Times

By Julie Wang | Chair, Bio-Benin Advisory Board

Natitingou, Benin is experiencing difficult times with greatly reduced tourism, fewer visitors and increased anxiety about safety. Despite this, Chez Guillaume continues to be the finest restaurant in town, offering an excellent choice of European, Moroccan and African meals in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. It is also the only restaurant in Benin brewing craft beer for its clients. We regularly receive five star ratings from customers.

Bio-Benin sends its trainees to Chez Guillaume, where they receive probably the best training in the country as restaurateurs. All our graduates easily find jobs across West Africa and are much in demand. Some go on to start their own restaurants. Virtually 100% of our trainees are gainfully employed doing what they love.

Currently, 13 apprentices and stagaires (those enrolled at local colleges who come to us for practical experience) are turning out delicious meals under the direction of our Executive Chef, Guillaume Lonhoudjo. Our newest employee, Jasmine, who serves the food, provides a welcoming presence and delivers drinks and meals promptly, with a smile. Ghislain, one of our trainees with a year of experience Chez Guillaume, has been loaned out to a restaurant in Cotonou to gain "big city" experience. Guillaume, also Executive Director of Bio-Benin, is turning inexperienced young people into adults who can make their own way in the world and be proud of what they do.

Thank you for your support. You are helping countless young people in one of the poorest countries on earth, make their way in the world and live a meaningful existence.
