Creation and self discovery in action
Our first cohort of trainee Child and Youth Care workers wrote their final exams over 2 days on 27 - 28 May this year.
26 delegates anxiously wrote their exams and are now nervously waiting the outcome and the results at the end of July 2026.
This NQF Level 5 qualification is an enormous career boost and elevates not only the education of the delagates but their impact on their organisations and the children in their care.
We are so proud of everyone who has worked so hard over the last 18 months towards this qualification anad we look forward to celebrating the results with them.

Flourishing training programmes

The training centre at Hearts of Hope is flourishing in 2026.
The centre is occupied every day with trainees coming to learn and grow. The programme design is all about turning a passion for working with children into a formal qualified career, where participants needs are met as they learn. At the same time, with their newfound knowledge, they can begin to benefit the communities and organisatsions within which they live and work.
There are 7 groups of 15 delegates at various stages along their educational path. A new group of participants starts on 25th February when they will write their assessment exam. This assessement determines whether their literacy, numeracy and comphrehension skills are of sufficent standard to successfully manage the programme.
Please help Hearts of Hope provide an incredible learning programme in a country with a severe shortage of skilled carers in the field of child development and care.

Prescilla's Ponderings

The training of our own housemothers has continued and we throught that we should ask one of our Moms, Prescilla, how the training has impacted her work in the children's home.
- How has the course improved your ability to do your job as a careworker? For me, it has improved a lot, especially with the children. I know how to handle the children much better than before and understand situations.
- Tell me about a difficult case at work and how you handled it differently due to your training? When the children are naughty, handling them has gotten much better, One specific case was with one child. Instead of entertaining their naughtiness, I will send them to bed with no TV, so as not to encourage bad behaviour.
- What have you enjoyed the most about the course? It has been vey helpful for my own career and wonderful to learn more in how to give the children the best kind of upbringing.
- What has been the most difficult part of the course? The behavioural course was the most difficult,and learning the steps in dealing with behaviour was difficult, but it has been worth it.
- Has it been hard balancing your work and studying? Tell me what coping strategies you have used to assist you. Most of the time I am studying and working after the children have gone to bed when it is quiet. It allows me that time to concentrate while maintaining by work life balance.
