Dear Donors,

The covid-19 epidemic has reached Brazil.  As of today, we have temporarily interrupted our activities. We will of course keep you informed in the coming weeks on how the situation will evolve.

You are free to interrupt your donations if you wish, but please be informed that WE WILLL USE WHATEVER FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE TO HELP those who are being so hardly affected by this situation.

We are working on some ideas but the main one, for the time being, is to buy food for those who have lost their jobs.

Thank you all so much for your support and let´s hope our planet will overcome these hard times as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Maria Helena

CLASSROOM READY TO RECEIVE STUDENTS NEXT WEEK
CLASSROOM READY TO RECEIVE STUDENTS NEXT WEEK

Dear donor,

Classes will restart next week after summer break.

We are now offering the following courses:

-        “LEARN AND GROW” for youths between 13 and 15 years of age. This course includes communication and expression, digital communication, logical reasoning games. This course will also assists the youths in their decision making process as to what they want to do with their lives.

-        Customer service & Sales assistant

-        Office 2016

-        Social Media Assistant;

We are very happy that we have about 40 youths registered for the next cycle.

But our toughest challenge remains to make sure that they complete the courses, as drop out rates last year were very high.  This will be done with the assistance of our Social Assistant, who will follow-up with the youths and their families.

Thank you so much again for your support!!

This year´s results were not as expected. The fact that we´ve moved to a new location caused a reduction in the number of youths that registered to our courses. We´ve also observed a lack of motivation on the part of our pupils, given that the Brazilian job market – which is still weak – is offering very little job opportunities. This caused a good number of drop outs.

A new approach is being adopted.

-        Provide shorter and more simple courses;

-        Organize one day workshops to teach crafts;

-        Hire a new social assistant to work with the youths and their families, in order to motivate them and show them that the more they learn, the more they´ll improve their chances of finding a job.

Despite some improvement, unemployment is running very high in Brazil at around 12.6 million people without a proper job. Our efforts to prepare our youths for the marketplace must continue, especially knowing that the situation will improve given the recent government reforms.

Meanwhile, we continue to also help African Refugees by hiring them to teach English and Crafts.

We thank you all again for your generous support.

Dear Donors,

We are currently on winter vacation recess. No classes are being ministered till the end of July. Meanwhile we continue to addapt to our new location and keep working to find pupils for the next cycle, which is not an easy task.

Even though classes are for free, many pupils abandon their courses because of family problems or lack of interest. We are working to find ways of keep the youths motivated and reduce the number of drop-outs.

We have just hired a Social Assistant that will help with this problem. She will work with the youths and their families.

When we resume  classes in August, we will minister computing, multimedia and English classes. Other courses courses are in our plans such as Caregiver, a profession that has a very good demand, especially amog senior citizens.

We thank you all so much for your assistance and generosity.

Favela do Sape
Favela do Sape
Hello everyone,
We have restarted our classes in a whole new location and under a new concept.
Our new little school is right at the doors of the Favela do Sapé, in the district of Rio Pequeno, São Paulo.
While we were looking for a new house to install our school, we started our classes in a meeting room of one of the favela buildings which can be seen in the photo (the building that appears on the photo was built by the municipality to house the inhabitants of the Favela).
We will move to the new house we´ve found on April 6.

We are very excited about our new school. It is adjacent to the favela and the inhabitants of the community are participating very actively in our project.
Some our courses are now ministered by refugees from Africa and Middle East who very much appreciate making some money (from YOUR donations!) for a living.
The cultural exchanges between our youths and the refugee teachers are so enriching! Our teachers are very excited and so happy to talk about their country, their habits, their food and, of course, their though situation.

All of this would not be possible without your valuable assistance.
Thank you again so much!
