Completion and Handing Over

Dear all,

The toilets have been completed, and are in use! We joined the staff at Mang'ula Primary School along with the students for the official Handing Over event on 8th April 2016. The school staff and village government organized a beautiful event, during which the students performed traditional song and dance routines, and school staff and village leaders spoke in thanks. 2 journalists from Dar es Salaam came to cover the event, and the news was published in all of the major Tanzanian newspapers, as well as appearing on national television.

I apologize for not posting this update sooner, and would like to provide a brief explanation for the delay. The toilets have been completed and in use since the beginning of February. Construction was complete in December; however, there is an official approval process to be followed, and sometimes this takes time, due to short staffing of engineers from the district office, rain delays, etc. After approval in February, the students were able to use the toilets. We were unable to hold the official handing over event until April due to an unusually heavy rainy season, which made travel to the area nearly impossible. While it can be frustrating, in a way the difficulties we encounter in completing these projects help to emphasize the need for such assistance, and make the work required to do so all the more worth it.

I would like to thank you all on behalf of KCCT for your generous support of this project, the school, and the community. Your contributions really do make a difference. For my part, I can assure you that I will continue to visit the project site regularly to ensure it is well maintained and taken care of. Also, I am waiting on some more photos from the Handing Over, which I will post on our website (http://www.kccttz.org/) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kilombero-Community-Charitable-Trust/461780453985816). If you haven't liked us, please do so now!

Thank you,

Mary Elizabeth (aka 'Emmy' in Tanzania)
