We are very excited to share with you that over the last few months we have been exploring how we can share the latest version of the exhibition more widely! We created the new exhibition after undertaking an evaluation of the existing versions. Through this evaluation we learned a lot about how people, and particularly young people, engaged with the stories and we created an exhibition out of this learning which incorporated a more visual and interactive approach.
Langley Academy in Slough, which has a focus on museum learning, hosted the exhibition in their gallery space through the second half of the Spring term. This provided the opportunity for the students to explore the exhibition during their break times, and also as a stimulus and resource in lessons.
Our Education Co-ordinator Anna, and Exhibition Co-ordinator, Sarah visited the school to learn more about how the exhibition can support young people to explore topics such as forgiveness, justice and empathy. Jacob Dunne, one of our storytellers who is featured in the exhibition, also came along to share his story with the students of Langley Academy.
This day provided great insight into how the exhibition can be used to complement the student’s learning in curriculum areas such as English Literature, Sociology, Religion and Philosophy. And it was wonderful to see the impact hearing Jacob’s story had on the students. We hope to continue learning more about how The F Word can be used as a powerful resource to encourage discussion and critical thinking with young people!
“It shows that from the darkest of places, people can learn to change.” 13 year old student who saw the exhibition at Langley Academy
