Te Acompano: Abortion Chatbot for Migrants

Thanks to your support, migrant women and girls in Mexico now have access to lifesaving reproductive health information at the exact moment they need it. 

At Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean (Ipas LAC), we work to ensure that women and people who can become pregnant have access to accurate, rights based reproductive health information. Through this mission, Te Acompaño chatbot has become a vital tool for people navigating migration routes in Mexico. It connects users with clear guidance on sexual and reproductive health services, helping them understand their options and make informed decisions even in contexts where access to information is limited or confusing. 

Through the chatbot, users can easily find: 

• Interactive maps of public health facilities offering care for survivors of sexual violence.
• Information on public health services that provide access to safe abortion.
• A network of organizations supporting self-managed abortion with medication. 
• Guidance on where and how to obtain abortion medication safely.

As Lourdes Faviel, Health Team Leader at Médicos del Mundo, explains: 

“Many of these women and—especially—girls who travel along this migration route have experienced various forms of violence, primarily sexual violence. Upon arriving in Mexico, they also face a range of additional challenges.” 

Her perspective underscores the urgent need for accessible, trustworthy information. Something Te Acompaño is designed to deliver directly into the hands of those who need it most. 

Since its launch in September 2023, the Te Acompaño chatbot has reached more than 16,763 people and facilitated over 14,408 conversations. The tool is actively used and promoted by approximately 14 civil society organizations and national, local, and regional health institutions working directly with migrant communities. Importantly, 41% of all interactions come from Chiapas and Tabasco—two states with high concentrations of migrants—showing that the chatbot is reaching people exactly where they are and where access to information is most urgent. In February 2026, we also launched the English version of the chatbot in response to user recommendations, expanding its reach and accessibility. 

With your continued support, we can keep strengthening and expanding Te Acompaño—bringing it to more states, integrating additional languages, and ensuring that migrant women and girls have access to trusted, lifesaving reproductive health information wherever their journeys take them. At Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean (Ipas LAC), we work to ensure that women and all people with reproductive capacity have the correct information, feel supported in their decisions, and have the confidence to access safe abortion and contraceptive services when they need them.  With your help, the Te Acompaño chatbot is making that possible every single day.

Since its launch in September 2023, the Te Acompaño chatbot has reached more than 14 915 people and facilitated over 13 925 conversations. This tool is actively used and promoted by approximately 14 civil society organizations and national, local, and regional health institutions that work side by side with migrant communities.

Te Acompaño is part of Ipas LAC’s Innovative Technology for Safe Abortion Communication efforts. It was created in response to the regional migration crisis to address the reproductive health needs of women and other people with reproductive capacity along major migration routes in Mexico. 

We are currently optimizing our chatbot by incorporating English language support. This improvement will allow us to broaden our reach, expand our message, and better support people who speak English—especially along key migration routes. Over the next few months, we will continue working on the technical configuration, and in our next report we will share the results achieved.
