In 2013, 11 schools in Tanzania received textbooks. These textbooks make a huge impact in the lives of the students and we cannot thank you all enough for being apart of this amazing outreach! Without text books, teachers struggle to teach the necessary information for students to learn school subjects. Textbooks allow students to not only see the information on the chalk board, but also see photos and find classroom activities designed for specific subjects and grade levels! Books allow children to re-examine the course content after the teacher has taught on the subject. Many students, as in all countries, often need time to study content multiple times to fully understand and textbooks make this possible. The previous Interim Director, Betsy Hoke's face lights up when she tells the story of seeing the children receive the books in 2013. They are always overjoyed and very thankful. AfricAid would love to expand this program to further schools needing textbooks in 2014. Without you we cannot make that happen, so join us in providing thousands of students in Tanzania with textbooks this year!
I am pleased to let you know that we are continuing to make a difference at eleven schools in Tanzania where we supply textbooks including our nine Kisa Project partner secondary schools and two primary schools, Upendo in Usa River and Losononi, a rural Maasai school.
As AfricAid’s interim executive director I spent two weeks in Tanzania in September and was able to see firsthand how important the textbooks are for students in Tanzania. When I first visited the country in 2011, I was shocked by the lack of materials and textbooks. It is a relief to know that students at these schools have appropriate textbooks that they can take home to study and work with during group lessons at school.
I spent several days working at Upendo School and I can tell you that the students and teachers were thrilled with the delivery of new textbooks. The children highly anticipated the chance to use them, as they love to learn and enjoy reading so much. Thank you for your support in improving the quality of education for so many students. We appreciate your generosity!
Summer's quickly coming to a close and a new school year will be here before we know it. The school year brings about excitement about reconnecting with friends, starting fresh with a new teacher, first day of school outfits and brand new bookbags.
Many of Tanzanian students have been returning to their schools this month and the rest will follow in August. They certainly are excited to be back in the classroom, back with their friends and learning new lessons. But for many of our students their school room experience is missing a critical piece: textbooks. Textbooks are a rareity in Tanzanian classrooms. Think back to your days in school and try to imagine learning new subjects without textbooks, talk about challenging! Tanzanian teachers have to been incredibly creative and resourceful to teach their lessons without physical books.
But with your support and donations, the school year could be a very different experience for our students. This year they could have textbooks as part of their curriculum. Now think about what that would be like.
Please considering giving to this project and creating a different, richer, more powerful classroom experience for our students. Thank you!
Dear AfricAid supporters,
It is now summer vacation and time for us to enjoy digging into that ever-growing "must read" list of books or devour that "beach read" we've been waiting all winter. Whether reaching for that book on the coffee table or pulling out a kindle, a myriad of stories are just at the tips of our fingers. But for many of our students in Tanzania even coming face to face with a textbook is a rare luxury. What a gift a book is to a hungry mind, eager to learn.
We at AfricAid, passionately believe that education is the only way to truly uplift individuals and communities from poverty. Your gift of a textbook is so much more than just providing books to a classroom, your donations gives the incomparable gift of knowledge. Through your support of this project, you are helping to provide the tools our students need to grow, learn and become agents of change.
Thank you for your support as we move closer to our goal of providing textbooks to 10 full classrooms in Tanzania.
Asante sana,
Elizabeth
Dear AfricAid supporters,
Happy 2013 to you! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your very generous support. Supplying textbooks is a crucial need in Tanzania where many schools operate without textbooks and many other students share 4-5 to a textbook. Supplying textbook is a tangible, simple way to start improving the quality of education to thousands of children in Tanzania.
AfricAid is proud to partner with 9 secondary schools and 2 primary schools in the Arusha area. We buy textbooks in Tanzania to save on shipping costs and ensure they are the correct ones to fit the curriculum. We regularly buy batches of textbooks and deliver them to our partner schools. Our last delivery occurred last December -- it was a wonderful holiday gift to our partner schools.
Thank you for your support as we move closer to our goal of providing textbooks to 10 full classrooms in Tanzania.
Asante sana,
Elizabeth
