Happy February Global Givers!
Hopefully, wherever you are, the weather is at least stable, if not warm. Here in Ithaca, we're swinging from 30-degree days to 60-degree days without so much as a chance to change our coats.
Weather aside, the semester is officially in full swing here, and GlobeMed at Cornell is gearing up for an exciting and busy spring! This past Saturday, we celebrated the UN's World Day of Social Justice with a photo campaign, asking Cornell students what social justice means to them. Those photos should be up soon, so check out our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GlobeMedatCornell/. As we head into the New Year, keep in mind how you can contribute to social justice causes in small and meaningful ways. As Julian Bond said, "If we have social justice, we won't need social service."
This weekend, our GROW Coordinator Julia is in Chicago for the annual GROW Institute, which trains coordinators to have meaningful and productive GROW trips. We are so excited to hear what she has learned, and are looking forward to another successful trip to Guatemala this summer. The trip will be sometime around May 25th to June 12th, so keep a lookout for updates as we get closer to that time!
Looking forward to events this semester, next Sunday is our second annual Global Health Gala, hosted in partnership with Cornell Health International. This year, we are very excited to welcome two speakers, Patrick Stover and Gen Meredith, both of whom are Cornell professors. If you're interested in supporting the Gala, please contact Shivani Bahl at sb852@cornell.edu.
In April, we will be hosting our annual Strip for Solidarity 5K Run/Walk. Our plans are still in the works for this event, so stay tuned for updates.
I wish you all the best in the coming spring, and may the warm weather come soon!
