Educación 2020 is closing this Project because school improvements have been completed. Students, families, teachers, and school administrations wish to express their profound appreciation for your great generosity in making this happen!
Like you, we believe that students have the right to environments that are conducive to learning. After the devastating fires in Valparaíso, Chile in April of 2014, many students were denied this opportunity. Schools in low-income areas struggled to recover from the fires, but thanks to donors like you, students at the Eleuterio Ramírez school are now able to learn in safe, uplifting, and beautiful learning environments.
We launched the project in September of 2014 by working with school and community leaders to determine the needs of the Eleuterio Ramírez school. In November, we gathered a large and diverse group of volunteers to fully renovate the school. Volunteers used supplies generously provided by donors like you! Projects included painting classrooms, repairing and lining the multi-use sports field, replacing the floor in the Kindergarten classroom, fixing bathrooms, and installing additional classroom lighting. We were also able to fill the library with donated books, renovate the exterior mural with the school’s crest, and install a perimeter fence for added security.
Matiás from grade 7 said of the school improvements: “Now, with everything they (donors like you!) did to help, the school is beautiful. They made us want to take care of it, while we didn´t before. They made us want to come to school.”
One of the Kindergarten teachers shared that her students are demonstrating a renewed sense of pride and ownership of their new classroom. In addition to helping keep the space neat and clean, she said that her Kindergartners now ask classroom guests to remove their shoes and wipe their feet clean before entering!
School Director Rosa Silva remarked: “The school has a new face. I am sure that this will be reflected not only in the enrollment, but in the day to day where our students can enjoy and learn in a totally renovated space.”
Educación 2020 was also able to leverage the success of this GlobalGiving Project into additional school improvement projects with local private sector donors.
While this Project has come to a close, we hope that you will check out our new GlobalGiving Project, “Improved Education for Chile's Vulnerable Students” (#22187). This project will help us to improve learning outcomes for 4,000 vulnerable students in Chile’s poorest regions.
Thank you again for your generous support, and we hope you’ll visit our GlobalGiving page again!
