Udayan Care Information Technology Programme report for GlobalGiving
About Udayan Care
Udayan Care is a Public Charitable Trust, working for the last 23 years, for the quality care of disadvantaged children and women.
Vision: To Regenerate the Rhythm of Life of the Disadvantaged
Theory of Change:“There are millions of orphaned and abandoned children in India; in addition, girls from weaker sections of society do not get an equal opportunity to continue their education; professional skills and attitude are lacking among disadvantaged communities to become economically self reliant”.
Udayan Care provides homes to orphaned children while also giving girls financial and development support to continue higher education, and communities to train themselves in vocations, by engaging socially committed individuals, who provide a transformative, nurturing and mentoring environment, to help them realize their full potential.
Mission:
A nurturing home for every orphaned child, an opportunity for higher education for every girl and for every adult, the dignity of self-reliance and the desire to give back to society.
About ITVT centers
There is a growing demand for Information Technology and vocational training among the poor urban and rural communities including communities around our Udayan homes. We have also found the use of computer and IT vitally important in our counseling programme for the children of Udayan Homes. Thus, the project intends to focus on mixed communities; communities who are located around our Udayan Homes and those in the densely populated clusters of slums, resettlement colonies and other low income settlements by setting up IT & VT centers for imparting Information Technology and vocational skills training.

To broaden horizons and bring IT close to the lives of underserved rural and urban communities in Delhi and NCR, and thus empower them for greater job prospects

1st Graduation Ceremony
In Udayan Care we focus to develop leadership quality in youth, which helps them for placement in relevant industry. Few months back we have expanded our IT Centre program in West Delhi, where we received support from Mr Subhash Chandra (Jeevika Saarthi Foundation) to establish a new centre called Kaushal Kalp - Udayan Care Vocational Training Centre.
On 9th Nov 2017 Kaushal Kalp - Udayan Care Vocational Training Centre celebrated its 1st graduation & scholarship cheques distribution ceremony. 72 students were certified in various computer courses and they are ready to fly with colorful wings in relevant growing sector.
During celebration our centre student performed an enactment on child abuse. This act was to deliver a social message; it was a proper blend of dance and drama. Dr Kiran (Managing trustee - Udayan Care) Mr Subhash Chandra (Jeevika Saarthi Foundation) Mr Deepak (Honorary Director - Udayan Care) gave such a motivational speech and wished our student good luck for their bright future.
Induction – “English Bolo” programme
Udayan Care IT Centre team intensely focus to promote Digital Learning through IT centres. We believe teaching with technology can deepen students learning thereby supporting instructional objectives. However, it can be challenging to select the “best” tech tools while not losing sight of your goals for student learning. Once identified, integrating those tools can itself be a challenge albeit an eye-opening experience. We are continuously making efforts to find resources for helping us to train our trainees and trainers to follow digital learning. Udayan Care is really thankful to Social Venture Partners (SVP) for providing their kind support to make our objectives successful. With the help of SVP we have received 14 licenses of "English bolo" course which is an online process for improving English communication. We are also thankful to "English Bolo" team for conducting orientation program in our Rohini, IT Centre and train our trainers to run this project smoothly. We are going to start first pilot batch of "English Bolo" with 12 students; it's a self learning module which helps youth to improve their English communication skills and would be helpful for them to increase their confidence level too. On 11th of Dec we formally conducted an Induction program of English Bolo, project coordinator took a 2 hours session to brief the student about the program and what steps students have to follow to learn this program efficiently.
Industry Expert Session
To make our centre youth familiar with industry trend, which would help them to prepare themselves according to market requirement, for getting job in growing sector. We continuously work to invite professional employees who are working with reputed organizations to take session on specific topic which is for the motivation of youth towards achievement of their set goals. On 9th Dec 2017 Mr Utkarsh took a session on Resume building in our Uttam Nagar IT Centre, Mr. Utkarsh is working with a leading MNC as a recruiter. During his session he covered the entire component which each employer is looking for in a candidate’s resume. 40 youth who pursue job specific IT courses from Kaushal Kalp - Udayan Care Vocational Training Centre attend the session, with the help of tips which were shared by Mr Utkarsh our students prepared their resume and prepared themselves to face interview for getting job.
