Digital Balance 4 Better Recognition

We’re excited to share that our Executive Director, Keturah Shammah, has been honored as a World Pulse Featured Changemaker and named One of 5 Women to Watch globally for her groundbreaking initiative, Digital Balance 4Better.

This recognition affirms the impact of GEM’s work in advancing girls’ digital empowerment across Nigeria.

Created in response to rising digital risks—online harassment, misinformation, exploitation, and exclusion, 'Digital Balance 4Better' equips girls with digital skills, safety knowledge and the confidence to use technology for growth, not harm. What began as a grassroots training has grown into a movement strengthening digital resilience, shifting mindsets, and attracting global attention.

This honor highlights:

Keturah’s innovative digital programming
Her leadership in advocating for safe online spaces
The measurable impact of the initiative
GEM’s growing visibility in global digital empowerment

Through the program, girls learn:

Online safety and responsible digital behavior

She opens Her Tailoring Shop

Comfort in her new Shop with Sawing Machine by GEM

Dear,

We are thrilled to share a heartwarming update on Comfort, one of the remarkable young women whose life has been transformed through your generous support of Girls Education Mission International.

Comfort’s journey began with a simple but powerful dream: to gain an education and become self-reliant. With your help, she successfully earned her National Certificate of Education and completed intensive training in tailoring and fashion design, her lifelong passion.

In December 2024, we had the joy of celebrating Comfort’s marriage. As part of our support for her new chapter, GEM International gifted her a brand-new sewing machine, not just a wedding present, but a lasting tool for empowerment.

Today, we are proud to announce that Comfort has acquired a shop for her tailoring business! With the sewing machine you helped provide, she is now launching her business and preparing to train other girls in her community, spreading the impact of your support even further.

A Word from Comfort:

A New Chapter of Her of Empowerment

We are excited to share an inspiring update on Comfort, one of the incredible young women whose life has been transformed through your support!

Comfort’s journey with Girls Education Mission International began with a dream of education and economic independence. Thanks to your generosity, she successfully earned her National Certificate of Education and completed comprehensive training in tailoring and fashion design, a passion she has long pursued.

In December 2024, Comfort got married, and we couldn’t be happier for her! As a special wedding gift, GEM International presented her with a brand-new sewing machine, not just as a gift, but as a powerful tool for economic empowerment. With this, she is set to launch her tailoring business, secure a shop, and even train and mentor other young girls in her community.

Comfort’s journey is just beginning, and we can’t wait to share more updates with you as she builds her business and empowers other young women!
