In Pokhara, Nepal, our collaborative project focuses on quality education, where we help members of the local community improve their literacy and numeracy and facilitate after-school classes for young pupils as well as conversational English classes for local women. Our primary goal is to support educational efforts through the dissemination of information whilst increasing the engagement and the development of new skill sets.
Education is vital to help communities grow and develop. In Nepal, the school system remains plagued by high dropout rates with girls still being more likely to leave school earlier than boys (WENR, 2018). There is an urgent need to resolve the lack of education, particularly for women and girls. Due to gender inequality issues, women and girls experience higher limitations in access to education.
Our project in Nepal contributes towards Quality Education, UN Sustainable Development Goal 4. Our collaborative program aims to provide support in developing children's literacy, numeracy, physical awareness, social interaction and teamwork. We offer one-to-one tutoring and group support, educational resources and infrastructure development. Moreover, our scheme builds capacity with partners and stakeholders on education and training initiatives.
The project works on sustainable, positive change through interactive and quality education, which prompts behaviour change. The educational sessions cover different learning styles to maximise the learning experience among students. Additionally, our project offers training opportunities, where members of the community assist training on literacy, numeracy and English. As a result, individuals, communities and the country as a whole benefit as we work towards sustainable outcomes.
