Summer is here and that means our Youth and Family Advocates have been extra busy coordinating activities for kiddos in our programs!
Our staff have recently hosted an ice cream party to celebrate summer break, taken a group of 16 teens for an all-day nature field trip, hosted a visit from Bunnies in Baskets in our Advocacy Center, and taken families to cool off at a local splash pad. All this youth-focused fun is in addition to their usual daily schedule which includes community meals, support groups, art, story time, homework help, and so much more!
Over the next few months we have lots of fun planned from berry picking trips to museum visits, and library outings to outdoor adventures. All of our activities help youth participants practice healthy relationships and boundaries, process emotions, build self-confidence, and have joyful bonding opportunities with their parent, siblings, and other children.
Since July 2018, our Youth Program has supported over 274 youth in our shelter and non-residential programs. In that time, we’ve provided childcare 2,000 times – so parents could attend support groups, or go to job interviews, court, and social service appointments.
Our Youth Program is empowering families to build a better future and end the cycle of violence. More than half of our program participants are under 18 years old, and we know that strong, healthy relationships are essential in helping children heal from domestic violence. Through trauma-informed and holistic wrap-around support, we're here to strengthen family bonds and create an environment where children and adults can thrive. Your gifts are transformational for the families we serve. Thank you!
