Support Children Orphaned by HIV in Uganda

As we reflect on this season of hope and look ahead to a new year, we are grateful to share the progress of our orphan support initiative in Uganda. The HIV epidemic continues to have a devastating impact on families: an estimated 1.4 million people are living with HIV, and over 23,000 Ugandans die from AIDS-related illnesses each year. Too often, children are left without parents—at risk of falling into extreme poverty and losing the security of home, community, and opportunity.

Thanks to your support, we are working to rewrite that story. Rather than sending children to overcrowded and impersonal orphanages, we provide a dedicated matron so they can remain in their family home, surrounded by familiar land, relatives, and community. This not only safeguards what their parents worked for, but preserves dignity, identity, and belonging.

Over the past year, your generosity has ensured that each child receives daily necessities—food, clothing, school fees, medical care, and emotional support—within a safe, nurturing environment. Most importantly, they are receiving an education and building confidence for the future.

As we close the year, we see the long-term impact taking shape: children once vulnerable to the harshest forms of poverty are now growing, learning, and preparing to build sustainable, independent lives. This work plants seeds of possibility—not just for these children, but for generations to come.

Not long ago, Uganda faced a devastating crisis. HIV/AIDS swept through communities, leaving thousands of children without parents, guidance, or the resources they needed to thrive. The weight of loss was heavy, and the future felt uncertain. But today, we can share something powerful: hope.

Across Uganda, HIV rates are falling. Thanks to decades of awareness, education, prevention programs, and access to treatment, fewer people are becoming infected, and more parents are living longer, healthier lives. This progress is nothing short of life-changing — especially for the children who once stood at the center of unimaginable loss.

Every percentage drop in HIV rates means more children growing up with the love and care of their parents. It means fewer little ones standing alone at funerals, fewer families torn apart, fewer futures cut short. And for those who have already lost so much, it means a community that is stronger, safer, and better equipped to protect and empower them.

But while the numbers are improving, our mission isn’t over. There are still children who carry the scars of this epidemic — emotionally, financially, and socially. They need education, nourishment, healthcare, and opportunities to heal and dream again. They need us to keep going, to keep building on this progress until no child’s future is defined by loss.

The story of HIV in Uganda is changing from one of tragedy to one of transformation. Together, we’re not only responding to a crisis — we’re rewriting what’s possible. We’re proving that change is real, that progress matters, and that every act of kindness, every donation, every shared moment of compassion moves us closer to a day when no child will lose a parent to HIV/AIDS.
