In the Spring of 2020, Uganda responded aggressively to the threat of the virus, and closed off borders and put the country into lockdown. Despite the economic implications, it successfully halted the spread of Covid. However, a new strain of Covid, has taken hold, and the number of infections are on the rise. There are an estimated 1366 new infections being reported daily. Concerned that the rapid and sustained increase will exhaust the available bed space and oxygen supply in hospitals, the government has taken action and among other things, has closed schools.
The orphaned children we support sought refuge in school as both a learning institute and a place to have breakfast and lunch. With schools closed, they remain at home helping with daily chores.
Hopefully the closing of schools temporarily will help to stem the outbreak, but in the meantime, the economic impact is devastating and access to food has become both limited and more expensive.
Please consider donating so that we can continue to support these orphans during this challenging time.
