BCT trainer aids AP Chief Minister on charkha
BCT trainer aids AP Chief Minister on charkha

The past few months have been an active time for students of the BCT Residential High School, as they take forward their journey of new learnings and experiences. Here are a few updates from the school.

Interactions with dignitaries

Meeting AP Chief Minister: On October 2, which marks Gandhi Jayanti, students and trainers of BCT Residential High School were invited to Vijayawada, where they aided Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu to spin yarn on the charkha. The team also participated in Vizag ‘Khadi Santa’, where they enabled various dignitaries to spin yarn and remember Mahatma Gandhi.

Indonesia weaving experts visit school: Over the past year, Mr. Satish of KORA Collaborative has been guiding students on bettering their spinning skills. Last month, he was accompanied by visitors from Indonesia. The visitors learnt about BCT's activities and expressed their appreciation at the spinning being taken up by the students. They also showcased and shared about their weaving skills and techniques.

Students visit: A group of 100 SMART Center students, undergoing job training, visited the Residential School to explore activities and interact with the students. The visit was enlivened by folk performances including Burrakatha, Kolatam, and Chitekelu by the Residential High School students.

School uniforms – by them for them

School uniforms tailored: School students learn tailoring as a vocational skill, and stitch school uniforms as part of the learning process. Specially-abled students from the Sri PV Venkatesan Center also participate in this activity. In the past months, junior students learnt stitching and joining parts, while seniors learnt better finishing and business skills.

School uniforms distributed: On 13th August 2025, 164 students received their school uniforms from BCT Secretary Sri B Sri Ram Murty. Each student received two pairs of uniforms, and the joy was visible on their faces. What made this event truly special is that all the uniforms were stitched by the students themselves, showcasing the skills they learnt in their Tailoring Vocational Training.

Parents & Teachers Interactions

Interactions between parents and teachers are imperative for a child’s progress, and BCT regularly conducts these meetings. However, on July 10th, this regular initiative took on a ‘Mega’ avatar. Under the Andhra Pradesh government guidelines, a Mega Parents Teachers Meeting was held across the state, and also at BCT Residential High School. 215 participants including parents, students and guests took active part. School Principal Mr. Murali gave an inspiring talk. A fun photo booth, and visits for parents to the various learning centers were other highlights.

Nutritious wholesome meals continue

Feeding India, is a Zomato initiative which provides nutritious meals to students. The collaboration between Feeding India and BCT school started in 2024, and in the past month, BCT marked one year of association. As a result of this, all children of the school and the staff have had access to four nutritious meals every day. We are grateful for the continued support from Feeding India and look forward to many more such meaningful moments.

Social animation in villages

The BCT Residential High School lays special emphasis on social animation, whereby school students showcase folk art skills and raise social awareness in the villages. In September, school students performed folk dances of dappu, chitikelu, kolatam and burra katha in the villages. Using these mediums they also spread the message on saving water and using it judiciously. Their programs were well received in the villages.

Celebrations & launches

Independence Day: On August 15, a group of 500 students, teachers, staff, alumni, parents and guests participated to celebrate Independence Day. The event began with flag hoisting by BCT Secretary Sri B Sri Ram Murty. Students showcased a cultural extravaganza of dances and skits, and prizes were awarded to winners of various games and competitions.

Vinayaka Chavithi: Offering prayers to Lord Ganesha, students celebrated this festival under the guidance of their wardens Mrs. V. Padmavathi and Mr. Varaprasad. Students of 10th class performed the pooja, followed by an engaging bhajana session.

Teacher’s Day: On 5th September, students celebrated Teachers’ Day on campus. 10th class students stepped into teachers’ shoes, conducting classes for 6th–9th students, followed by fun games for teachers. Gifts and prizes were exchanged, and teachers shared their experiences and best wishes. Mr. Kumar, SLFC Project Coordinator, also addressed the students with an insightful message.

Inaugurations, Elections & Awards

Innovation Hub Inauguration: On 15th August, BCT school’s Innovation Hub was inaugurated by Mr. Vijay Kumar, MLA. During his visit, he toured the hub, reviewed the inventory, and gave insights. Joining the event were Innovation Hub donors Mr. J Prasad and Mr. U Shankar. Following this, on September 9, the School’s innovation hub was registered with HamaraLabs Atal Tinkering Labs under the guidance of Mr. Rajasekhar. Students are actively submitting their activity assignments on the HamaraLabs website.

Elections for Leaders: A celebration of democracy was also held, as students elected their own mess leaders through Mess Elections. It was a hands-on lesson in democracy, leadership, and responsibility, right at the dining table.

Accolades for Students: On 16th September, a school-level Bhagavad Gita Sloka Chanting Competition was conducted by Chinmaya Mission at the Residential High School. BCT school students won various prizes at the event, making the school proud with their performances.
