WGNRR and Partners at Women Deliver 2023!

WGNRR and partners Anis – Instituto de Bioética, Fòs Feminista, Oxfam Canada, The YP Foundation and WGNRR Africa, among many more were at the Women Deliver Conference held in Kigali, Rwanda from July 17 to 20, 2023. We successfully shared the September 28 Call to Action, harnessed the power of storytelling to bust abortion stigma, engaged in a powerful dialogue on advancing reproductive justice against the anti-rights agenda, gave out SRHR swag, and engaged in countless panels – all in the promotion of #SRHR4ALL women, girls, and gender-diverse people. View all of our activities at WD2023 here.

Maximizing Human Rights Mechanisms Towards Gender-Just and People-Centered Development

WGNRR, United Nations Philippines, Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines, and Council for People’s Development and Governance held the Utilizing Human Rights Mechanisms Towards Gender-Just and People-Centered Development. Joined by over 60 organizations from all over the Philippines, the capacity-building workshop broadened participants’ understanding of United Nations human rights mechanisms. CSOs developed indicators to monitor the Universal Periodic Review Recommendations for the Philippines, including progress in SRHR and the decriminalization of abortion.

Amplifying #SRHR4ALL on the airwaves: WGNRR Africa was on the radio!

WGNRR Africa had their first radio guesting at Abood FM, Morogoro where they talked all about their amazing work on the ground and introduced the Sauti Ya Vijana project in Morogoro and Iringa Regions. ICYMI: you can watch the recording of the session here.

International Youth Day: VCAT with Youth-led Volunteer Group, The Sunday Project

For International Youth Day we held VCAT session for the Sunday Project where we all went on a journey, exploring personal and community values around adolescent sexual and reproductive health and access to abortion and post-abortion care. The Sunday Project shared that VCAT sessions are crucial to deepening young people’s understanding of the SRHR situations in their contexts, including the situation of access to abortion and post-abortion care.

Defending and Promoting Reproductive Rights in Tanzania

WGNRR Africa, in partnership with Center for Reproductive Rights – Kenya, held a strategizing session with journalists, social media influencers, and experts in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), collectively known as reproductive rights defenders. The primary objective was to collaboratively review and enhance advocacy strategies, with a special focus on safeguarding and advancing reproductive rights within Tanzania.

The meeting concluded with a resounding commitment to advancing SRHR for all, particularly focusing on the issue of safe abortion for victims of rape, incest, sexual assault and defilement in Tanzania.
