WGNRR Speaks Up!

By WGNRR Team | Communications Team

Dear partners and friends,

Thank you for mobilizing during the May 28 International Day of Action for Women's Health. The 2023 actions from across the world highlighted the centrality of SRHR in advancing women's rights and gender equality.  Together with young people, local governments, indigenous communities, and local women leaders we called on #SRHR4All.

Interviews reveal that gender equality is essential to young people's empowerment toward access to SRH

WGNRR Africa has conducted a series of focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with youth key informants from six wards in Iringa Municipal Council and four wards in Kilolo District Council. The assessment revealed some gaps in knowledge on young people's SRHR. It also surfaces persisting gender inequality that disempowers young people to access SRH information and services and advocate for positive policy changes. These evidence-gathering efforts are essential to developing capacity building tools under the Sauti ya Vijana project (SYV) of WGNRR Africa. Stay tuned for more!

Over 200 people participate in a forum for the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Bill

WGNRR in partnership with the Philippines' National Anti-Poverty Commission held the Public Forum on the APP Bill and was joined by over 200 members of civil society, community organizations, and government agencies. The Forum discussed the state of the APP Bill, the role of civil society and different government agencies, and programs within the Bill on addressing issues on adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Young people shared recommendations on youth empowerment in areas of leadership in pushing for the APP Bill. For updates on the Bill and other legislative agenda, follow WGNRR.
