19-year-old Nazar and his mom Natalia are already with us in Poland! We picked him up on March 9, in the morning from the hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine). He had to travel in a reclined position because he had an accident a month ago and broke his spine. He spent the trip in a minibus, lying on the floor, on mattresses, because it was impossible otherwise... Late in the evening in Hrebenne we begged the Ukrainian border guards to let him pass through the corridor so that he would not spend another several hours in a queue with everyone else... We did it! At 8:15 p.m. our medical transport took him over and brought him safely to Konin. They arrived tired, but very happy at 3 a.m.....
Everyone was allowed to take a small luggage that fits on the knees...
On March 15, we managed to organize the evacuation of disabled Valery with his wife and daughters (7, 10 years old) from Kiev. They left at 11 am. The road was very dangerous and difficult, because the Russians were dropping bombs and shooting even at civilians, hospitals, schools.... It is difficult to describe. Many roads are closed. They drove almost 14 hours crowded in a minibus to the Polish border. In Lubycza Krolewska they ate a warm meal and rested before the next stage of their journey. Here our assistants from PAY IT FORWARD Foundation picked up Valery and his family and they drove all night to Konin (additional 7 hours). This morning they arrived at our Foundation. Very tired... Now they are resting. In the evening we will determine what they need, we will do the necessary shopping and in the coming days we will start rehabilitation. All this is possible thanks to your help, for which we are very grateful!
These are just two of many stories that we have been living for a few days now... These are the stories that show that every life is worth fighting for! Nazar and Valery would not have been able to escape from the horrors of the war by themselves. They wouldn't have even gone down to the bomb shelter without the help of other people....
30-year-old Maria is also with us. We have already ordered a new wheelchair for her, because the current one is broken. Maria needs an urgent surgery, which we are arranging at a hospital in Poznan. After the medical procedure she will come back to us for further rehabilitation.
Our youngest charge is 14-year-old Alex, who suffers from muscular atrophy. He loves computer games and knows everything about computers! He is a very smart boy, he speaks English and German!
Last week we sent the wheelchair to 16-year-old Natasza, who lives with her parents near Warsaw. She suffers from a rare genetic disease NBIA (neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation).
Dear Friend, we need your regular help to rescue disbled Ukrainians from the war zone. They are not able to escape from the horrors of the war by themselves. You can make a difference.
Thank you!
