Social Awareness about Differently Abled in Egypt

We do highly thank you for your last donation. You have participated in the change of people with disabilities’ lives. Social awareness is one of our main core projects. Our target is to change the misconceptions of our society that engraved in their thoughts. The physically challenged people are “differently-abled” in their own ways. We focus on this concept by spreading it via all channels as events, speeches and lectures at schools, universities, and public places.

Last week, we had a great impact on our community. We were able to hold an “awareness campaign” with the British University in Cairo - Egypt. We met up with teaching staff and students, we talked about the importance of changing the misconceptions related to the physically challenged people and focused on the importance of inclusion. We highlighted on the importance of accessibility all around the university campus and beyond as the differently abled person has the right to move around freely without any barriers.

The audience were so much engaged as three of our members were sharing their stories while they were students at universities. Alaa, Rania and Mariam tackled the obstacles they faced while being in college, such as lack of accessibility in campus, lack of inclusion and lack of social awareness. In this part of the campaign, they suggested solutions for these problems. Therefore, social awareness is one of our core projects. Your kind donation will help a lot in changing the society’s mindsets by holding such events for awareness.

Lately, we won an honorary award of Zero Project Conference 2019 to acknowledge that we are sustainable in our mission and vision and we are always seeking for the betterment of life for physically challenged people through changing their disability into ability. This Award ceremony was held in the UN premises in Vienna which focused on Independent Living and Political Participation. This honorary award is not only for us, it is for you as well our donor.

Dear all Alhassan Foundation’s friends, believers & supporters,

We started 2019 with an amazing event for our physically challenged kids (wheelchair users) to promote raising our kids to love and support their peers with no prejudice or stereotyping, and to let our kids on wheels live a happy active life like their peers.

Our kids on wheels are trying to have a normal life, but in order to achieve that they need accessible schools, homes, and facilities. Our role as a foundation is to show our community that these kids are active kids that can live normally if we provided them with their needs. We are so proud of our kids on wheels and we urge you all to feel the same.

We organized a huge event less than a couple of month ago as the biggest Funday social gathering for kids with disabilities in Egypt. Our kids on wheels were having fun, showing their talents and interacting & playing with abled people.

This event was organized & sponsored by our foundation in collaboration with different stakeholders & partners as volunteers and facilitators during this amazing event. The kids were so happy and felt that they belong to a bigger loving and welcoming community.

We hope that you can support us in nurturing these efforts to broaden our services and organize similar events in several schools, universities, social clubs, malls, public places and everywhere. Help us raise the awareness and educate the next generation on inclusion, accessibility and on how to deal with their peers if they look different or if they have any physical challenges. Collaborate with us in nurturing our kids on wheels talents to have more self-esteem and trust that THEY CAN do whatever they dream of and work for. On another note, we just want to draw your attention that "The Differently Abled"   the concept that we proposed several years ago as a new image/classification for People with Disabilities in Egypt is now an official term used by the media & the government to honor and acknowledge the PWDs in Egypt.
