Dear Alhassan donors, supporters and believers,

Thank you for donating to Social Awareness about Differently Abled in Egypt project. This project is mainly what our mission and vision are about. We believe that by changing the mentality of people and how they perceive physically-challenged people, we will spend less time and effort demanding wheelchair users’ basic human rights; it’ll be a given to consider their needs.

In 2019, we participated in the UN’s Zero Project competition in Vienna and won as one of the most innovative practices that enable persons with disabilities to live independently. At the end of 2019, we were approached by the Zero Project committee and were asked to participate as speakers in 2020’s Zero Project Conference.

Zero Project Conference 2020 has its focus on Education, specifically Inclusive Education and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). This category showcases innovations that allow young persons with disabilities to access education opportunities. Ms. May, our Founder and CEO, along with Mr. Alhassan, Vice President of Board of Trustees, participated in a session that showcases approaches to increasing access to sports, health, leisure and wellbeing education and sharing good practice in these fields.

Mr. Alhassan shared his story and how wheelchair basketball helped him cope with his physical challenge after the accident and enabled him to get a better education opportunity in Arlington University and get his bachelor’s degree then dual master’s degree.

Also as part of our social awareness initiatives, we target schools and universities to raise students’ and faculty’s awareness about the differently Abled. Accordingly, Mr, Alhassan gave a speech in the American International School in Egypt. He talked about the challenges he faced and how he overcame them and how he became the first Egyptian and Arab Wheelchair Basketball player in the US.

We’re currently planning a fun day for kids in which kids of different ages can meet each other and play while their parents can exchange information and experiences with each other. We will share the event’s highlights in our next report so stay tuned!

Thank you dear donors for your donations; your support is what enables us in our mission so we urge you to continue supporting our cause and stay loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help kids on wheelchair in Egypt be more confident and accomplished.

We hold bimonthly meetings at our premises to raise the awareness of some public figures and other influencing people among their circles to spread the word that we are differently abled NOT disabled. During these meetings, we showcase our activities, achievements, beneficiaries’ success stories and get attendees’ feedback and suggestions on what we can do differently so we could grow and evolve.

These attendees are always awed by the life-changing impact our projects have on our beneficiaries and amazed by the willpower of these beneficiaries who did not let barriers and challenges stop them.

As part of our social awareness initiatives, we held the regular orientation day in which we invite new beneficiaries so they would know about our projects and initiatives. We travel to different governorates to reach more people who need our services.

Donate to Alhassan this GivingTuesday and help us win a share of half a million USD from GlobalGiving. Don't wait too long, there's only few hours left!

Dear all Alhassan Foundation’s friends, believers & supporters,

Alhassan foundation is inviting you all to celebrate Spinal Cord Injury Day! This day was first initiated by international Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) to observe ‘Spinal Cord Injury Day’ on 5th September every year with the intention of increasing awareness amongst the general public. This year’s slogan is ‘Living Life to the Fullest’.

Some think that life stops after a spinal cord injury that leads people to be permanent wheelchair users. We seek to differ, you can live your life to the fullest and enjoy the activities you love. Yes, it’s a challenge and not an easy one but what is life without some challenges.

Alhassan here is living proof of this year’s slogan. After the traumatic accident he’s been through as a teenager that caused him paraplegia, he decided that his life isn’t going to end there. He traveled abroad, and started playing wheelchair basketball. Not only that, but also he pursued his bachelor then masters degree and he does various fun activities that he enjoys. Alhassan’s vision is to get back to Egypt to start a national wheelchair basketball team in Egypt.

As a social awareness initiative, we hold gatherings every 2 to 3 months throughout Egypt to raise awareness about PWD’s rights and needs; helping wheelchair users adopt the “Yes I Can” attitude and instill the concept that you’re not disabled you are Differently Abled.

We encourage you to continue supporting us and staying loyal donor to our causes through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help wheelchair users in Egypt be more independent and successful. Please visit our Facebook page to read other success stories:

Dear Alhassan’s Donors,

We do highly thank you for your last donation. You have supported in the change of people’s life. Your support made a change for people whom are physically challenged. Social awareness is one of our main core projects. Our target is to change the misconceptions of our society that engraved in their thoughts. The physically challenged people are “differently- abled” in their own ways. We focus on this concept by spreading it via all our channels and through our events, speeches and lectures at schools and universities.

We had a great impact on our community. We were able to hold an “awareness campaign” with the Cairo University . We met up with teaching staff and students, we talked about the importance of changing the misconceptions related to the physically challenged people and focused on the importance of inclusion. We highlighted on the importance of accessibility all around the university as the differently abled person has the right to move around freely without any barriers.

The audience were so much engaged as two of our members were telling their stories while they were students in their respective universities. Alaa, and Rania tackled the obstacles they faced while being at college such as lack of accessibility inside the campus, lack of inclusion and lack of social awareness. In this campaign, they gave solutions for these problems. Moreover, we met 21 wheelchair users of students joining different colleges. They also shared their experience and they learned from our campaign as well. Therefore, social awareness is one of the most impactful projects. Your kind donation will help a lot in changing the mindsets by holding such events for awareness across all Egypt’s 27 governorates.

We encourage you to continue supporting us and staying loyal donor to our causes through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help wheelchair users in Egypt be more independent and successful. Please visit our Facebook page to read other success stories:

Our target is to change the misconceptions of our society that engraved in their thoughts. The physically challenged people are “differently-abled” in their own ways. We focus on this concept by spreading it via all channels as events, speeches and lectures at schools, universities, and public places.

Last week, we had a great impact on our community. We were able to hold an “awareness campaign” with the British University in Cairo - Egypt. We met up with teaching staff and students, we talked about the importance of changing the misconceptions related to the physically challenged people and focused on the importance of inclusion. We highlighted on the importance of accessibility all around the university campus and beyond as the differently abled person has the right to move around freely without any barriers.

The audience were so much engaged as three of our members were sharing their stories while they were students at universities. Alaa, Rania and Mariam tackled the obstacles they faced while being in college, such as lack of accessibility in campus, lack of inclusion and lack of social awareness. Your kind donation will help a lot in changing the society’s mindsets by holding such events for awareness.

Lately, we won an honorary award of Zero Project Conference 2019 to acknowledge that we are sustainable in our mission and vision and we are always seeking for the betterment of life for physically challenged people through changing their disability into ability. This Award ceremony was held in the UN premises in Vienna which focused on Independent Living and Political Participation. This honorary award is not only for us, it is for you as well our donor.

Congratulations for all of us. We encourage you to continue supporting us and staying loyal donor to our causes through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option.
