Social Awareness about Differently Abled in Egypt

Dear all Alhassan Foundation’s friends, believers & supporters,

It’s our pleasure to announce that we decided to set the model for others to replicate. Consequently we proved that we Walk the Talk through hiring wheelchair users as majority in our employees from the 1^st day not just a minority as we used to see in workplaces.

Not only that, but also 50% of our founders are wheelchair users that’s why we believe in wheelchair users’ potential with a deep faith in their skill sets and proficiency. We chose the best of the best to hire because they will be firstly efficient, and secondly can feel what their peers suffer from in their everyday life through dealing with inaccessible governmental facilities or trying to support their families and secure a decent job. They can serve with all their heart and they won’t save any effort to help. Also when a newly wheelchair user see these vibrant employees working on their wheelchairs, he/she will take them as their role model for real change that starts from within.

We are proud to tell you that we are effectively changing minds and facing stereotypes. Through the other 7 projects that we provide to support and improve wheelchair users’ lives in Egypt, we change the misconception of dealing with wheelchair users as disabled persons. We initiated the first diverse choir & musical band in Egypt. This band include abled performers along with PWDs especially wheelchair users. They had the first public concert a few months ago, and it was SUCCESS! So they got invited in several TV shows in Egypt to prove to the whole society that they CAN do whatever any able person can do.

We also organized several social gatherings and events to help wheelchair users meet with each other and exchange their experiences and know more about our diversified projects to choose the most eligible project for their needs and circumstances. We try as much as we can to empower PWDs to overcome their mobility issues and inspires all the Egyptians & Arabs.

We are proud to tell you that we are effectively changing minds and facing stereotypes. Changing preconceived ideas & inherited beliefs that are acquired through generations is the most challenging in any society. Social awareness is crucial in our societies to fight prejudges and stereotype. Not only that, but also we are keenly working on resisting discrimination against people with physical challenges, and promote diversity.

During the past few months your contribution helped us to organize several gatherings and events to help wheelchair users meet with each other in several social gatherings. These social gathering included introducing all of our projects to the newly joiners to choose from them what suit their case, needs, and skills, and we got to decide upon their eligibility. Also, we are planning to organize support groups among wheelchair users so they can pass on their knowledge & experiences and learn from each other.

We at Alhassan Foundation empower humans with physical challenges to lead a dignified life of vitality & productivity that inspires all the Egyptians & Arabs. Last October we had one of our successful social gatherings to welcome new members from wheelchair users. They got a chance to meet old members and talk about their challenges as well as successes. As a matter of fact, the lady who organized this event used to be an introvert girl. After her spinal cord injury, she felt insecure and she was afraid of getting out of her home or meeting people. Yet after she joined Alhassan Foundation she became self-confident, and built lots of friendships with her peers. She volunteered to be the main organizer of our latest event in Ismailia, Egypt. She was a real success!
