Dear Alhassan donors, supporters and believers,

Thank you for donating to our initiatives for raising “Social Awareness about Differently Abled in Egypt” project. This project is mainly what our mission and vision are about. We believe that by changing the mentality of our community and how they perceive physically-challenged people, we will spend less time and effort demanding wheelchair users’ basic human rights; it’ll be a given to consider their needs.

We walk the talk. We promote and effectively implement inclusion in our foundation. Over 50% of our board and employees are differently abled persons! Which makes us the only DPO (Disabled Persons’ Organization) in Egypt.

We believe that the fastest and most effective way to change people’s perception is showing them the real image of PWDs that they’re not aware of. Our goal is to make the society see that wheelchair users aren’t helpless, dependent and non-productive people. Accordingly, we always insist on having our gatherings in public places so people would see numerous wheelchair users socializing, being active and having fun.

We also make all year round awareness raising campaigns on social media. Our most recent one is called “Sport is a source of happiness”.

AlHassan Foundation is proud of establishing AlHassan Sports Academy, which includes training and qualifying talented members in various fields of sports from children and adults. One of the most important reasons for AlHassan Foundation's support for this academy is the Foundation's belief that sport is a real source of happiness, empowerment and optimism for wheelchair users.

This campaign raises awareness among wheelchair users and shows them their ability to play sports and be professional athletes, which is an effective way to stay away from depression and isolation. It enables them to develop healthy social behaviors, and encourages them to build friendships and meet new people.

Thank you dear donors for your donations; your support is what enables us in our mission so we urge you to continue supporting our cause and stay loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help kids on wheelchair in Egypt be more confident and accomplished.

We believe that the fastest and most effective way to change people’s perception is showing them an alternate, the real image that they’re not aware of. Make them see that wheelchair users aren’t helpless, dependent and non-productive people. Accordingly, we always insist on having our gatherings at public places so people would see numerous wheelchair users socializing and doing fun activities.

We also make all year round awareness campaigns on social media. Our most recent one is called “why are they on a wheelchair?”. That kind of question is frequently directed to parents whose kids use wheelchairs. That question is unwelcomed as it makes kids feel like there’s something wrong with them.

That campaign raises awareness about the different reasons that make kids use wheelchairs, like: spinal cord injuries, muscle atrophy, brittle bones, cerebral palsy and spina bifida.

Thank you dear donors for your donations; your support is what enables us in our mission so we urge you to continue supporting our cause and stay loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help kids on wheelchair in Egypt be more confident and accomplished.

Dear Alhassan donors, supporters and believers,

We believe that by changing the mentality of people and how they perceive physically-challenged people, we will spend less time and effort demanding wheelchair users’ basic human rights; it’ll be a given to consider their needs.

On a sunny day, we held an orientation gathering in an open area after suspending this activity for 10 months. This meeting was essential since many of our newcomers had little to no internet access and couldn’t watch the orientation sessions we held online over the past months. Those newcomers were eager to hear about our initiatives and how we could possibly serve them, accordingly, we held this meeting while asking everyone to keep their masks on at all times.

There were so many fun activities. Our first activity was a trivia competition. People positively engaged and competed against each other and there were giveaways for the right answers like: coloring books for children, color pencils and t-shirts. “Life on Wheels” book was also one of the giveaways for those who needed it. The second activity was a competition between three or four tables, they were asked to list all names that start with the given alphabet letter and the winning table would get gifts. The third activity was the core activity. Our team introduced themselves, we started by sharing the Foundation’s mission, vision and values. We proceeded with explaining our projects and their criteria whilst raising the awareness of beneficiaries and their parents and rooting the concept of being Differently Abled.

Everyone, Wheelers and their family, networked and exchanged experiences and even started new friendships. Kids who already got some of our services attended the event and they inspired other kids and their families to be as active and independent as them. Some parents couldn’t even believe that kids on wheelchairs can do that!

Thank you for donating to “Social Awareness about Differently Abled in Egypt” project. This project is mainly what our mission and vision are about. We believe that by changing the mentality of people and how they perceive physically-challenged people, we will spend less time and effort demanding wheelchair users’ basic human rights; it’ll be a given to consider their needs.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve suspended our quarterly orientation gatherings to ensure the safety of our beneficiaries and staff and we tried to find an alternative way to stay in touch with our beneficiaries and introduce new members to our services; consequently, we:

  1. Started a series of live videos on our facebook page. Each one of these live videos discusses a chapter of Gary Karp’s “Life on Wheels”. Life on Wheels is primarily a guidebook for those with mobility issues, offering practical information on how to:
  • Adapt your home
  • Choose a wheelchair
  • Start a family
  • Take care of your body and much more!
  1. Make weekly videos that explain each of our projects and sub-projects and their eligibility criteria.

These videos raise the awareness of abled people and physically challenged people alike. We’re constantly trying to foster “I can do!” attitude in our beneficiaries whilst changing the way abled people see the differently abled people through showing examples of active and accomplished challenged people and showing how a successful entity like Alhassan Foundation is mostly operated by wheelchair users and that we don’t just use empty slogans.

Thank you dear donors for your donations; your support is what enables us in our mission so we urge you to continue supporting our cause and stay loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help kids on wheelchair in Egypt be more confident and accomplished.

"Remember, COVID-19 Hits All" Campaign
"Remember, COVID-19 Hits All" Campaign

Dear Alhassan donors, supporters and believers,

As you all already know, the world is facing the threat of the coronavirus and we all need to work together to fight that pandemic and flatten the curve. That can be done by raising people’s awareness on how they can protect themselves and others by sharing some tips and techniques that can effectively lower the infection rate.

As a foundation that serves wheelchair users, we shared on all of our platforms tips on how people can protect themselves and keep their wheelchairs – which they are in constant contact with – clean.

Furthermore, in cooperation with various NGOs, we are working on a campaign called “Remember, COVID-19 Hits All!”. Under that hashtag, NGOs are providing content that helps differently-abled people protect themselves against the Covid-19 pandemic. Since every person face different challenges and has different needs, we collaborated to provide infographics – in Arabic – that instructs people how to protect themselves.

We shared the content we already made for wheelchair users and we made an extra post for people who use different assistive devices like canes or crutches. That post offered tips on how to keep their assistive devices clean to prevent picking up infections through them.

These tips were based on a survey we made for our employees (wheelchair users) and our beneficiaries. These posts caught the attention of the public in general and challenged people in particular since there wasn’t such content available in Arabic.

Stay home. Stay safe. Save lives.

Thank you dear donors for your donations; your support is what enables us in our mission so we urge you to continue supporting our cause and stay loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help kids on wheelchair in Egypt be more confident and accomplished.
