PAM Judo game winners and Global Giving Donor Reco
As Corona is not that a threat now, all PAM children have started in-person classes. Two more prisoners’ children have joined PAM. All PAM children and 15 children from the communities are taking judo training regularly. They are also using the gym for physical fitness and endurance, and also library for intellectual activity. PAM children as usual published the wall magazine on the Nepalese New Year. The theme this time was corona and me. Two judo intern and library intern are learning their jobs. Soon they will join full time after they complete their education. Three children from the Everest Judo Club completed their 45 days long training. Eleven PAM and communities children and three of them got the black belts in judo. Two PAM children took part in 15 days long National Cadet Corps Training and five children took part in ISF School Sports Teacher Training Course for Judo. Two teams from France and USA visited PAM and trained them judo for 2-3 days. 15 different families including Lions Club and NCPD (Network of prison children’s NGOs) provided support for painting celebrated Birthdays, Nepali New Year.
One of the main events of this time is the General Assembly of PAM. 51 members of PAM participated and 11 new Board Members are elected. The Board went through two days training and is busy developing new vision, and strategic plan. Agriculture staff has started a nursery to produce vegetable seedlings and fruit saplings, green liquid manure, plastic mulching, drip irrigation, He is planning to start training for the communities to start roof-top and kitchen gardening. Children are also learning. PAM board has decided to build 16 shops by the side of the road. Some shops will be used by PAM itself to sell its products and provide PAM children who complete their 12th grade. Local People will get organic produce and if they produce will be sold through this shop.
PAM children and previous PAM children now in police and armed police took part in two judo competition events. In the Ambika Bahadur Chhetri Open Senior Judo Championship and Judo for 19th Asian Games. Two PAM children got gold medal and three got bronze, two previous children got gold and two got silver. Five PAM children and four outside children were selected to go for the second round in the Asiad selection games. All of these children and major donor to PAM through GlobalGiving were honored in a ceremony at PAM.
Twelve community children are continuing Judo training regularly with 30 PAM children. Three more Sherpa girls from the Everest Judo Club. Khumjung, Solu Khumbu has joined PAM for two months judo training. Everest Judo Club is situated at the highest point above the Namche Bazar. 21 new judo mats replaced the old judo mats which will be donated to local judo club where PAM judoka will train judo players. All community children also participated and enjoyed in PAM organized annual picnic. Nine PAM judo players and the community children appeared in the examination organized for the Black Belts.
All the children were provided with new sports shoe, school bags and track suits. PAM children were having eggs and meat each once a week. Now they are getting both twice a week to provide nutrition to enhance their stamina. They are also provided fruits and nuts once a week. Judo trainees from the communities are also provided snacks each day and super flour prepared out of two parts legumes and two parts grains including finger millet for iron and other minerals. Seven different groups including the Lions Club vested PAM and provided food, fruits etc.
Three senior PAM children who have completed their high schooling have started working as assistant judo teacher, librarian and computer trainer. They are working as interns. PAM is raising chickens that have started laying eggs, has been growing various vegetables and mushrooms which will be used for the children’s consumption. Children learn agriculture, consume organic vegetables and get paid.
PAM is going ahead with its campaign to involve prisoners’ children in community activities to improve their acceptability in communities, schools and other organizations. PAM will be slowly going to be a community hub for learning judo, using library, computer, internet and gym. It will also be a place for learning climate smart agriculture and technologies. PAM prepared a design and estimate for a new judo hall with gym and library. The proposal is being developed to submit to donors.
