Seasonal Greetings to all our donors, well-wishers and supporters from ECCA, Nepal.

I feel privileged to inform you all that, with all your moral support and financial support, we have now formally initiated our Mirge School Environment Improvement Program through launching a Youth Training Program and a Children Training Program from the beginning of June 2011. As a step towards achieving the vision of improving school environment in all the schools of Mirge VDC, we had started our program through launching youth training programs and students training programs mainly in two schools – Majhgau Lower Secondary School and Kalidhunga Higher Secondary School.

The first youth training program cum workshop was organized at Charikot, Dolkha from 3rd – 5th of June in which local youths, school teachers, members from school management committee and representative from VDC’s were invited. The training workshop was highly focused towards developing a common vision for school of all the stakeholders who are directly involved with the welfare of the school. During the workshop, all the participants agreed the common vision for both the schools as follows;

Kalidhunga Higher Secondary School “To become a model school of Dolkha, which is recognized for providing quality and practical education for the students”

Majhgau Lower Secondary School "To become a model school in Dolkha, which is recognize as child friendly school, where quality education for students are taught through a various measures of child friendly educational techniques".

To accomplish the vision being created for their school, the participants had also prepared an action plan to be implemented through support from government organization and non-government organization by the end of the workshop.

As students are the integral part of school family, providing knowledge to them about the need and importance of school environment is necessary. Hence, a four-day conservation awareness camp was organized for 18 students of both the schools from 8th to 11th June 2011. The camp was focused on making the students aware about different environmental issues and skill development issues. A students Nature Club was established in both the schools and action plan were formulated by the executive committee members formed after the camp. The students seems to be very energetic towards implementing the action plan in their school where they had planned for different environmental programs for their school and community as well as different skill development programs to increase the skills of the students.

A copy of report and link to the photographs of youth training program as well as students program is attached with this report.

I would like to express my gratitude towards all our donors and supporters for the program as well as the GlobalGiving team for your continuous backup. We anticipate for the same kind of cooperation and support in the days coming ahead as well as seek your suggestion and guidance for the productive outcome regarding the program in future.

Dear All,

Seasonal Greetings from Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness (ECCA).

I would like to start this report with an acknowledgment to Mr. Jack Williamson for his initiation towards the implementation of the Mirge School Environment Improvement Project. Without his initiation, I don’t think that we would have been connected and writing a project progress report.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all our donors and supporters for their active support, donation and encouragement provided for the implementation of our concept in Mirge VDC of Dolkha District. By this date, we have been able to collect $3880 for the implementation of the program.

As per our previous planning of organizing a Youth training program – mainly focused in developing a vision for the village and a children training camp to develop skills and knowledge of the students, the program is going to be organized in middle of May month. Mr. Phulkaji Lama (local teacher of the school) has been actively involving in selecting the active participants from the village as well as arranging the required logistics support for the program.

Once again, sincere thanks to all our donors and supporters for the program as well as the GlobalGiving team for your continuous backup technical support for the project. We would like to ensure you all that we will provide a timely update on the activities being carried out in our project.

Thank You.

With a broad vision of Improving School Environment and a Holistic Development of Mirge VDC of Dolkha District, Nepal, an initial approach towards implementation of School Environment Improvement program has been launched with the support and initiation of Mr. Jack Williamson from Australia. The main objective towards the implementation of this program is to educate the villagers and to rise them out through poverty and manage them towards sustainable future.

Prior to the implementation of the program, A preliminary survey towards the acceptance of the concept of School Environment Improvement and need analysis of the local community had been made through a field visit by Mr. Angel Chitrakar, Program Officer of ECCA on 16th to 19th November 2010. During this field visit, discussions with various stakeholders (local youths, teachers, community members and parents) of the communities had been made to know their perception on different issues for community development.

The discussion drew the conclusion about the need to increase the quality of education and the infrastructure for the educational institution. The need of developing a broader vision towards developed community and the need of awareness in different social issues in the community were also been made.

Mr. Jack Williamson, had also made a two week field visit from December 2010 to January 2011 in Mirge. His experience during of field visit has been posted in his blog, which could be accessed through the link provided below.

To initiate the implementation of the program, a visioning workshop for the local youth and teachers of the school has been planned to be implemented on April/May 2011. The main objective towards implementation of this workshop is to create a vision of the participants towards the holistic development of the mirge village. The youth workshop will be followed by a training program for the school students, which will focus towards their role in implementation of school environment improvement program in their schools and awareness raising in different issues in their community.

We would like to express our gratitude towards all the donor community and the GG Team for your contribution, continuous support and encouragement for the promotion of this program. We anticipate for the same kind of support in future as well as would like to request for your few minutes of time towards promoting our program in your circle.
