March 8th International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women.
Here is an example of how Sankara is Empowring Women along with eradicating curable blindness in India.
For Karamjit getting a 65% in her 12th standard exam was no guarantee of a higher education. Her father was a daily wage construction worker who had to share his meagre income for Karmajit's and her 2 younger brothers education. One of her relatives told her parents that Sankara Eye Hospital from Tamil Nadu was selecting girls from Punjab for a diploma course in eye care; her father enquired about the course and came to know that the hospital would be bearing the cost of entire training.
Karamjit filled the form, passed the entrance exam and thereafter completed the course in Coimbatore. She subsequently was absorbed as staff at the hospital in Ludhiana.
"The course has not only given me a livelihood but also increased the status of my entire family" proudly shares Karamjit.
Here in this picture with her mother at a Gift of Vision outreach camp near her hometown.
Thank you for joining your hands with us to empower women along with eradicating blindness.
