Sankara Eye Foundation's ninth hospital was inaugurated on October 12 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India to serve visually handicapped poor.
1.Purpose: To set up Sankara Eye Community Hospital to provide comprehensive high quality eye care to the rural poor absolutely FREE.
2.Facility: This would be a 225 bed state of the art eye hospital, with a built up area of about 55,000 square feet, performing 25,000 FREE surgeries annually. The hospital will cover all specialties in eye care and will have a paid section catering to urban walk in patients.
3.Outreach model going to the villages: We go to the villages, screen villagers and the needy are transported to the base hospital, surgery / treatment is done, and patients are transported back to their village after 3 days at the hospital (they are provided treatment, boarding, lodging etc.) - all totally FREE.
4.Coverage Area: We cover villages in a 150 km - 200 km radius from the base hospital. We will be covering the villages in the districts of Pali, Ajmer, Nagaur, Jaisalmer, Jalor and Bikaner.
