WASH Project Report - March 2025

Installing water tanks at Kilmandafu primary
Installing water tanks at Kilmandafu primary

We are thrilled to share that our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) project has reached completion this week, and it’s already transforming lives. Despite a major setback—some of our funding was cut —we pressed on, thanks to your unwavering support. With limited resources, we managed to install 3 large water tanks, dig 2 wells, install well water pumps, set up 2 rainwater harvesting systems, and install 10 handwashing taps across four schools: Kimandafu Primary, Nasholi Primary, Nasholi Secondary, and Kikatiti Primary.

These four schools serve the majority of our Sponsor-A-Child children, so this project directly impacts over 4,200 students, including the 17 children in our program. One of them, Tunu, used to walk long distances to fetch water before school—sometimes missing class entirely. Today, she washes her hands at school and enjoys fresh water during lunch. The schools are also starting gardens and planting fruit trees to support nutrition for students who cannot afford lunch—about 50% of the children enrolled. These gardens will help fight malnutrition and improve overall well-being.

Although we’re disappointed we couldn’t provide more tanks or water filters due to the budget cut, we’ve applied for additional funding and are hopeful about expanding this work. During school visits, we also noticed many children dressed in rags, clearly in need of further support. Once this project wraps up, we plan to return and assess how best to assist these vulnerable students.

We sincerely thank you for standing with us through challenges. Your kindness is making a lasting impact—WOW Tanzania, making the world better, one child at a time.
