The "Safe Water and Sustainable Nutrition Initiative" by WOW Tanzania aims to provide access to safe water and address food insecurity in Tanzanian communities. This project will involve digging wells, installing water filters (clay buckets made by Water to Wine), and rainwater harvesting tanks to ensure safe water access. With safe water available, communities and schools will be empowered to establish their own organic gardens, mirroring the successful model implemented by WOW Tanzania.
In Tanzania, 88% of the population lacks access to safe water due to inadequate infrastructure & saline ground water. This contributes to food scarcity, with approximately 58% of Tanzanian children under the age of five suffering from anemia and stunted growth. Many school children go without food and water throughout the day due to poverty and scarcity, especially during the dry season. Lack of rainwater tanks exacerbates the situation. Drinking untreated water causes diseases like typhoid.
This project will provide access to safe water by digging wells and providing water filter clay buckets made by Water to Wine, along with rainwater harvesting tanks. Additionally, we will empower communities to establish their own organic gardens, ensuring sustainable food sources. By addressing water and food scarcity, we aim to improve the health and well-being of Tanzanian families and schoolchildren.
This project will provide safe water to 3 primary schools, 1 secondary school, and two communities, benefiting over 4000 people. Access to clean drinking water will improve their lives, and they will have the ability to plant organic gardens for food and extra income. The organic gardens at schools will ensure that children who can't afford school meals have access to nutritious food. With improved access to safe water and nutritious food, there will be a reduction in illness and improved health
