Happy Lunar New Year with Safe Water

By LaRelle Catherman | Executive Director

"Yeah, I have my own cup for my water"
"Yeah, I have my own cup for my water"

As 2023 is well on its way there is excitement in the air.  Whether in the city or in small communities and villages in rural areas of Vietnam, it is season of yummy food, family, friends and lots of festivities.   It is the Lunar New Year.  In Vietnam it is the year of Cat.  It is MEDRIX’s understanding that the cat symbolized patience, thinking ahead and starting to do something with perseverance to complete the task.

MEDRIX is determined to assist in the support of health education resources for pre-school and kindergarten teachers who serve their communities in distant locations in rural areas.  Safe water is a significant part of this task.

Many children only have safe water available at the school, as their homes have no means to provide such life sustaining necessity without the task of and boiling the water they carry from the streams, rivers or a pipe that protrudes from the ground in a central area of the village.  Often in the home locations there is no drinking water that is safe.  Thus, it is very important for the schools to provide such water for the children.  Each child has a glass of their own marked with a symbol to identify their very own cup.

Fresh safe water flows from the water filtration systems that MEDRIX has provided.  Teachers learn new techniques and prevention methods about current health risks that may affect their rural areas including the children and their families.  Dengue Fever, Malaria, Covid and it’s variants, flu, and other health risk concerns are addressed in the teacher’s continuing education updates.  Safe water is one of the keys to a healthy, happy community.   You too can assist MEDRIX and community health providers by supporting MEDRIX’s Safe Water Projects.   Be a Cat this year and helping continue the task of providing safe water and continuing education for rural communities in Vietnam.
