“Comparing the work, I had to do and the money I was to make or making it was rather demotivating than motivating. Of course, I was happy to take up this role of an Area Mechanic because I knew I will be helping my community have access to clean and safe water throughout as my work will increase pump functionality in my community,” said Jinesi.
She continued; “But, at the same time, I was also looking for a way to generate income, a way for me to be independent as to not rely always on my husband but be able to provide for myself and even that of my family.”
Jinesi is an area mechanic who comes from Cholowera village T/A Mavwere of Mchinji district. Jinesi is married to with 5 children, but at the same time also look after 3 children (orphans).
“In the past, it was hard for me to be able to buy clothes for me and my children and as well as support my husband in buying food and other home necessities. Before the training, I had no idea to consider my work as a business, but during the training, we were taught, told and encouraged to take or consider the work of an area mechanic as a business,” said Jinesi.
She continues to say; “Starting then, things have changed for me, I now take my work as a business and from what I get through my work, I am able to invest in other businesses. For example, I managed to buy a Goat and 2 pigs which I know will benefit me soon for I will sell some and some can be used for home,” said Jinesi.
“I can provide for all my children; I am able to buy them clothes, school uniform and other school materials. It has also helped ease the pressure on my husband as I am able to support in other things for our family,” said Jinesi.
“I am very grateful to Pump Aid-Beyond Water for such an opportunity that has assisted a lot in my work and as well as changed my life for the better,” said Jinesi.
