Mekong Regional Indigenous Child Rights Home (MRICRH) in Mae Chan, Chiang Rai Province provides a safe home for high-risk children, women, and men in the Greater Mekong Sub region (GMS) of Northern Thailand. This home provides critical support for those that have been orphaned, trafficked, abandoned, and neglected. The children, women, and men receive shelter, protection, life skills development training, nutritious home made meals, family outreach services, government school education, basic necessities, medical care, school supplies, transportation to/from school, and vocational training.
MRICRH intensive tutoring activities were organized for students to review and improve knowledge for mid-term and final exams. Tutoring was available to all levels including primary, secondary, and high school. The tutoring programs included learning from various video media related to the different curriculum subjects.
On September 17 and 18 there was a final exam that had been organized by an examination field at DEPDC/GMS. People traveled to the center to take the exam at the official exam site. There were 26 primary school level students that completed the exam in person, 4 secondary school level students, and 4 high school level students. The rest were online exams. All students must now register for the next semester which begins this October.
After the semester break, MRICRH organized a camp for 13 target groups to develop skills in various fields. There was a focus on activities that foster coexistence, unity, and developing self-improvement skills such as learning self responsibility, time management, and swimming. The last day of the student camp, the work was summarized to see what improvements had been made.
From everyone here at MRICRH we would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to all past, present, and future donors. As always, the work we do here at DEPDC is possible because of your generosity and shared passion in our mission to prevent human trafficking. Thank you!

This period MRICRH registered existing students for the new semester of school as well as worked to recruit new students. We had one new case from MRICRH and one older case register as new students of the Distance Education Program. To open the new semester, we had an orientation meeting that included the students from MRICRH as well as HDS and Distance Education Program.
In keeping with the specific mission of MRICRH, this important program was able to rescue a mother and son from a domestically violent home. The mother and son stayed at the emergency house in the Mae Sai center.

This period MRICRH had online and onside orientation for students of the Distance Education Institute. Four months of the second term have been spent teaching in preparation for midterm tests that occur before the final examinations on March 5th and 6th.

Like so many other organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals, MRICRH and the local communities and families have also been affected by Covid-19. Covid-19 continues to spread and cases continue to rise. Schools in the surrounding areas have not been able to reopen. Staff at MRICRH are doing everything they can to maintain online schooling for the children. Sadly, some areas don’t have strong enough reception for the online classes and some students are having to work. At MRICRH a room has been set up as a classroom and a place for keeping books and school supplies. This semester we had 7 students take the exams. The numbers are lower than usual as some students have had health issues and were quarantined and unable to sit for the exams.
We sincerely hope that our next report brings happier news and that Covid cases begin to decline.

Like so many other organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals MRICRH and the local communities and families have also been affected by Covid-19. Currently the entire Chiang Rai Province is experiencing a third wave of increased case numbers. Here at MRICRH we have been working to support local children and families with rice and dried food. Many families both in town and those that live rurally have been impacted by the pandemic and we are doing everything we can to provide food security through food donations.
All schools are currently closed and it is hoped that they can reopen on June 14th but we have already heard that some will be waiting until July 5th. Our hearts are with all those that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a community based organization, we have directly felt the impact Covid-19 has had and hope that cases begin to decline so that we can continue to do this work and be of even more service to the community we hold dear.
From everyone here at MRICRH we would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to all past, present, and future donors. As always, the work we do here at DEPDC is possible because of your generosity and shared passion in our mission to prevent human trafficking. Thank you!
