Forest Growing in the Sierra Tarahumara!!!

Greetings from the Sierra Tarahumara!

We are happy to share an update on our ongoing reforestation efforts in the Rarámuri communities where we continue working together to restore forests and strengthen local ecosystems.

Over the past months, we have been monitoring the growth of the pine trees planted in 2025, and we are encouraged to see many of them growing and adapting to their environment. These young trees represent hope for the future of the region—helping to restore soil, retain water, and protect biodiversity.

However, we also want to be transparent with you: climate change continues to present serious challenges. Prolonged drought and extreme weather conditions have caused a portion of the trees not to survive. This reality reinforces the importance of continuing and scaling up our efforts.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Our Impact in 2026

Thanks to your support and the commitment of new partners, we are moving forward with an ambitious plan for this coming season:

  • 20,000 pine trees will be planted in Bocoyna, strengthening forest ecosystems in the upper regions of the Sierra
  • 20,000 sotol plants will be planted in the canyon areas of Batopilas, using native species adapted to dry conditions and helping restore degraded landscapes

This diversified approach allows us to adapt to climate conditions, combining traditional reforestation with resilient native plants that can thrive in harsher environments.

Community and Nature Working Together

As always, these actions are carried out in collaboration with local Rarámuri communities, who are the true guardians of these territories. Their knowledge, commitment, and participation are key to the success of every step we take.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
Your support allows us to keep planting, learning, adapting, and growing—together with the forest and the communities.

With gratitude,
The PIES de la Tierra A.C. Team
