Rights to legal name and identity is the basic rights of children ensured by UNCRC and Rights Related to Children in Nepal. Rescued children often do not have birth certificate which is a key document to issue their citizenship. Three girls rescued 6 years ago were struggling with legal identity. Their parents and address could not be identified inspite of years of assesment. Finally, we did medical forensic to identify their ages (17, 21 and 22 years) and filed case at ward office who is responsible for issuing birth registrations. It was years of fight and eventually their birth certificate were issued last year. This opened door for their citizenship. The issuing agency, Chief Administration Office has accepted our application for issuing their citizenship. This will not only ensure their leagal registered name but helps in trainings, jobs and access to social services.
