Since June 2019, we were able to help 24 girl children rescued victims of trafficking. They were served with food, accomodation, health care, informal education, counselling and life skill trainings whild they stay in the transit shelter. Out of 24 resuced children, 15 were restored. Restoration takes place either in their bilogical family, close relatives, foster families or organizations providing family like care, however, the best interest of the child and family's situation is taken care of. Once the child in registered into our care, their vulnerability situation is assessed before restoraiton. 67% children were restored into biological families with education support for 3 children.
Our social work travel to children's family during the assessment process. This will help us to identify the vulnerability situation of both family and the child. Based on the report, social worker will decide if the family is in proport situaion ot take care of the child. Some poor families, will need support to send children to school or their nutrition and medical needs.
Sushmita, 5 years old girl, was resuced from an orphanage. She was referred into our transit shelter by rescue agency (police). In the orphanage, she was not fed propoerly and did not get even the most basic necessities of healthcare and education. During the family assessment process, her mother (Kamala), who abandoned her in street, was identified. It was found that she was drunkard and does not fit to take care of the children. So, Sushmita was referred to a foster family in Kathmandu. Now Sushmita goes to school, and has a good care from her new family. She is a fun loving girl.
