Baby Tazzlynn's Recovery Journey

By Careen Chepchumba | Project Officer

Dorcas  is a 27-year-old mother of baby Tazzlynn  and a businesswoman in Matumaini village. The mother realized that her child had a health complication that required medical attention. She explained the baby's problem to Joseph, a Community Health Promoter (CHP)  in her village. The CHP advised her to attend the upcoming Kalyet Afya Foundation's free health outreach in Matumaini PEFA church. During the visits, the nurse( Emily) examined the baby and realised her condition could not be handled at the outreach level. She therefore referred her to Molo Sub- County Hospital (Level 4) for further diagnosis and treatment.  Later on, the child was referred to Nakuru Referral Hospital (Level 5) for specialized treatment.

The mother informed us that the baby was diagnosed with a brain issue that deterred the child's normal growth. The specialist advised her to adhere to the scheduled checkups for subsequent treatment and to monitor the child's progress.  Dorcas feels grateful to the organization for the monthly outreaches in her village, where she first took her child for treatment. Her child is showing positive improvements.  Dorcas said the following to us:

"I  no longer have to travel longer distances to Molo Sub-County Hospital or GSU Dispensary for my child's normal clinics and immunization. The Monthly outreaches have helped me to save on time and costs associated with travelling."

Kalyet Afya Foundation employs the principle of  "Leave No One Behind". We believe that access to healthcare is not a privilege but a basic need, regardless of your geographic location. With your support, an underprivileged rural child will receive immunization, a woman will get family planning services, and breast and cervical cancer screening for early treatment when diagnosed at an early stage, promoting the general well-being of the community.
