Reproductive Health For Rural Communities

In a remote village in Nakuru County, we met Mirriam, a 35-year-old mother of three — a 10-year-old son, a one-year-old, and a four-month-old baby — and she is already expecting another child. None of her two youngest children has ever been immunized. Miriam explained that the nearest health facility is over 7 kilometers away, and with a limited income, she cannot afford transportation or the costs of the clinic.

Her story reflects the challenges many rural mothers in Nakuru County face — struggling to balance daily survival with the need for accessible family planning and child health services. As a result, closely spaced pregnancies and preventable childhood diseases remain common.

Kalyet Afya Foundation is determined to change this situation. We are seeking support to expand our mobile health clinics that deliver free family planning and child immunization services to hard-to-reach villages. Through these clinics, mothers like Mirriam will receive reproductive health counseling, access to modern contraceptives, and have their children immunized against diseases such as measles, polio, and tuberculosis. By bringing services closer to families, we can save lives and empower women to make informed decisions about their health.
