Rehabilitation progress....2

By Catharina van den Bosch | Director

One happy baby
One happy baby

We started working with a mother who had tried to kill her newborn baby. The baby had been admitted in our residential setting and is doing well.

We have been trying different avenues to assist the mother. We had discussions with the local social affairs and women affairs bureaus about birth control for this mentally disturbed lady. This proved more of a challenge than anticipated as none of the offices wanted to take responsibility for this matter. The family was more than happy to authorize and sign for whatever measures were decided upon.

We have discussed the situation at regional level as well and they have taken the responsibility to guide the local offices.

We continue to follow the situation and work with the family and the different government offices. We have involved the psychiatrist as well and are waiting for his assesment and diagnosis.

Slowly but surely we are making progress to help this poor lady and her family.

We can't pursue a family re-unification at this time as there is only an old grand mother and a brother of the mother who has already two of his sister's children. We decided that for the time being we will keep the baby and maybe when she is a little bit older we can re-consider a family re-unification.

We thank you for your support of this project. It will help us to assist women who are traumatised, have mental challenges or have been abused. The above  mother is all of the above and we need to stand with her to prevent more trauma.
