Progressive report of Project #23114

By Charles Hazabintwali | Project Director Manager

This report narrates the progress that we have so far made thanks to you donors who kindly contributed in last fundraising through Global Giving.

The new kids with happy faces after being rescued from street.

It was a great and unbeatable work we came over in last month by your generous support to Les Enfants de Dieu in opening challenge as well as funding the project as such. An incredible success for us and for you is that we were able to rescue 21 new street children in last month. The testimony of one of them is that when his mother got remarried with another man as his father died when he was still enfant, the step father did not treat him right and with the worries of his mom to loose the second husband, the situation was getting worse day to day and the boy was to continually pay the price of violence at home untill he decided to drop out school and ran to the street. The group of children has more sad stories that pushed them to live the miserable street life.

At the center the total number of children raised from 70 to 91 residing, to have shelter, three meals a day and more care. Arriving in our center, the children received the first services that included having records on their backgrounds, orienting them on the center functionality (this implies that we help the children know the center and the internal regulation regarding the conduct and ethic (this is because these children have been independent at the street and at some extent would face challenges of being over ruled by the center authorities to abide to the rules and regulations of discipline, respect to their fellows and their leaders and the staff team).

These children are currently having a warm and parental care in Les Enfants de Dieu through rehabilitation process that involves areas of education, psycho social support, health and leisure.

Additionally, we would like to congratulate you for the good beginning of the 2nd school term where all children benefited from the center the school fees and scholastic materials at the right time. This was compared to some of cases whereby children could go with apology letters to school authorities saying we will pay later due to fue funds.

As far as health area, we have so far helped new comers to access to the first pre screening test on HIV/AIDS, and more treatments were proceeded for infections such as skin diseases and warms. The nurse works hand in hand with health centers to treat the new diseases as well as teaching the children about hygiene and the conduct they should have while any illness occurs. The mosquito nets have been purchased for all the children to reduce incidences of malaria. The children are provided with the clothing and shoes for their personal hygiene and cleanness. The hygiene products are now available for the dormitories, classes, kitchen and refectory.

Our center helps children trace their families reconcile both sides before we proceed with final reintegration. In last month, 9 children rejoined the community through that process and are followed up while being sponsored their education. The center will continually host new children as we reintegrate some back into the community, the reason why the needs will keep increasing.

As we so far got funded around 11% of the budget required to cover the whole needs of 100 children, we still aim at raising the rest of this budget always relying on your huge heart and a helping hand. We look forward to keeping you posted on our ongoing activities.
