This third report to narrate our progress, with many thanks to all our donors who kindly contributed in last fundraising through Global Giving. Your contribution enables us to fulfill our mission of transform the lives of street children by meeting their basic and psycho-social needs, providing them with education and skills, and reintegrating them to become valuable members of society.
It was a great privilege working with Global giving which has supported Les Enfants de Dieu in opening challenges, and also connecting us with people from around the world who support our cause. It was so great and impressive to be able to rescue around 15 children from street to join the program and reach 100 children in total who are cared for rehabilitation center.
Education: It is very important for anyone have access to education which will enable children to reach their desired life. This is a great privilege for the Center to be able to provide schooling for 105 children in Primary level, 66 children in High School and 2 children in Vocational training school in 2016. The center allocated a party of donations received in education as all children close yearly school program of 2016 with an average result of 62% for primary students and 60% for high school.
Health care: All 100 children who are in the program benefited from different practices of reducing diseases and enabling us have high success rate in preventing malaria and other serious diseases. In these last months we became able to decrease the disease of malaria up to 50% compared to the last year. Center helped new comers to access the first pres creening test on HIV/AIDS, and more treatments were preceded for infections such as skin diseases and worms where we reached to 100% of all children recruited.
One testimony feel to share with our supporters is the case of a boy who is a leader (Minister of Administration), he grew up with a miserable life as his mother lives with a mental disorder and cannot care for him well. He has not had contact with his father since he was very young, so he left his mother to different family relatives to see if eh could be cared for. Since life continued to seem hard for him, he later decides to run way to the street where he was expecting to get a better life while it was not! After two years on the street, he joined the center in 2011 and started the school at that time! He is now in P5 and doing great in his school! He has been more inspired by the Center ministry system, and now serves as minister of administration! It cost him very much as he became a minister of administration after three years serving other posts in the Center( as Minister of Home affairs, D.G( Assistant of Minister) many times). He is a great Minister and we are very cheerful to have this ministry system and Cedrick grow well in this system. He has made a great development from drogues guy to decision maker, aggressive guy to guiding others, stealing guy to peace maker with others.
Home materials: The children are provided with the clothing and shoes for their personal hygiene and cleanness. The hygiene products are now available for the dormitories, classes, kitchen and refectory.
Reintegration: Our center helps children trace their families reconcile both sides before we proceed with final reintegration. In last 3 months children rejoined the community through that process and Receive follow-up while being sponsored for their education. The center will continually host new children as we reintegrate some into the community, which is the reason why the needs will keep increasing.
As we have received funding for 18% of the budget requested through global giving specifically on this project we are reporting on for covering the needs of the children, we still aim at raising the rest of this budget always relying on your huge heart and a helping hand. It is going to be hard for these two remaining months before we close the year. We are hoping to get our next support which will help us to cover the gaps of 2016 and start a year of 2017. We look forward to keeping you posted on our ongoing activities.
