All may be lost but I will trudge forward
All may be lost but I will trudge forward

In the past five years, earth has faced many disasters such as typhoons, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes tsunamis resulting in a very large loss of life; infrastructure and the lives work of countless.

Just imagining losing everyone you love, everything you have worked for and all that you have achieved is all gone leaving you with nothing and wondering how will pick the pieces of my life is heart-wrenching.

The floods of 2010 in Pakistan were one of the worst ever seen in county's history – it has been three years and earlier this year the country faced the floods again but thankfully the destruction was a lot less.

We tend to move on from one disaster to another but picking up the pieces and rebuilding is a long laborious process which takes time.

After the preliminary damage assessment we set up a school in Habit Mastui, District Dera Ghazi Khan in Southern Punjab to educate the children of the flood affectees who were left with literally nothing and were trying to rebuild their lives in whatever way they could.

We are trying to help out in whatever means we can by adopting the families of that area. The setting up of the school and the education it provides will prove to be a strong base for the future of the students studying there.

It has been a tough as the location of habit mastui is in the interior of the province of Punjab surrounded by small villages and the initial zeal of new donors does diminish over time.

Today we ask for your support to help us expand and sustain the project – We ask for a long term commitment, a commitment to be with us when a child of five graduates from school through your help.

Through this platform, we don’t ask for your donation, we ask for your lifelong commitment

In 2010, the floods in Pakistan were one of the worst ever seen in county's history.

It destroyed lives and everything they worked for and their parents had worked for in one instance.

The damage was huge from infrastructure, homes, and livestock to arable land and most importantly the lives lost during this calamity.

The students sat for their annual exams

It was a proud moment when children sat for their yearly exams to be promoted to the next class. The perseverance and hard work of our team has borne fruit and to see so many children moving to the next step of their lives gives us the encouragement to keep working. We are hopeful that with the support of donors like you we can not only continue with educating the students we have but also induct new students who we have to turn away due to the shortage of funds.

With your help, we hope to continue with our mission and move forward.

The floods of 2011 and 2012 were one of the worst ever experienced in Pakistan since its independence in 1947. It resulted in extensive damage to crops, livestock, infrastructure and human settlements which nearly crippled the country’s economy. In this tragedy nearly 4,000 schools were either destroyed completely or had become  dysfunctional for teaching. [i]

After a preliminary damage assessment by a team from the Fatima Memorial Hospital (NUR-FMH) of the worst hit areas such as Dera Ghazi Khan in Southern Punjab, 400 families in flood hit areas were resettled by the NUR-FMH team. The team also provided medical relief, food, shelter and clothing to the flood affected people

Fatima Memorial Hospital  than opened a formal school in Habit Mastui – DG Khan in Southern Punjab to address the severe need of an educational structure in in the flood affected areas. Today 200 students attend our school for free from Nursery to Grade 5. Five teachers qualified in the area of primary education have been inducted to provide quality education with instructional standards based on the latest national curriculum.

Teacher’s workshops are conducted 3 times a year for quality control in competencies such as communication skills, conflict management and curriculum planning.

Our Mission Continues

The children being educated at Habit Mastui are extremely thankful to their donors who made schooling in a devastated area possible again. We need your help to carry this mission forward and request that you come forward and become a part of this initiative through your donations to educate, empower and to create a better future.

It is our aim that one day these children will stand shoulder to shoulder with children from developed areas and feel
empowered by the quality of education provided to them through our humble endeavors.

Hello Friends,

We learn from the floods of 2011 and 2012 especially in South Punjab, that young people who have endured too much still dream, hope and yearn. Most of them long for an educator, who will listen, extend a hand; excuse mistakes and open doors to give a chance of a lifetime gift. The success stories in NUR Foundation School in Habit Mastui, Dera Ghazi Khan, illustrate how - areas of weakness. Our teachers plan the coursework accordingly and help students overcome the areas of difficulty. Students such as Ayesha are very happy to attend school and being an opportunity to exercise their right to education.

The teachers underwent formal training sessions such as communication skills, conflict management, curriculum planning. These trainings are part of our capacity building initiative to equip our teachers to provide quality of education to these students and professional development of our teaching staff.

Together we are creating valuable synergies to provide gift of education to these children giving them immense opportunities of learning & growth. By giving them skills for life we not only benefit them socially but also economically and also give them an opportunity to exercise their right to choose to bring about a revolutionary change in their lives.

Without your help this all would not be possible. We look forward to our working together in future as well.

Even after two years of facing one of the worst floods in the history of Pakistan, the community of Basti Habit Mastui Mouza Samina, Dera Ghazi Khan has not lost the hope. Their determination to revive their lives is getting stronger with every passing day.

FMH constituted the non-formal school in order to provide education to the locals to eradicate illiteracy which was expected to rise as a result of the flood. Massive destructions were encountered in this unfortunate event. FMH, as a part of its flood relief efforts, initiated the provision of non-formal education in this area.

To this date, more than 300 students are benefiting through this non-formal education program. It has all been possible because of the support of our generous donors who have helped us in educating these children and build a hope for their bright future. We look forward to join hands with our supporters as together we can bring their lost hopes back.
